We chose the Prince Conti (pronounced Con-Tie, not Con-tee) based on TripAdvisor ratings and reviews, and of course the price and location. Sadly, the price was right on the money and not much of a bargain considering the actual rooms and amenities.

That's not to say we disliked the Prince Conti - it was wasn't anything special or remarkable. The rooms were relatively clean and the bathrooms updated, but the 17" TV from 1982, the tiny room size, the old mattresses, and the bland decor (plainer than the online pictures) left us shrugging our shoulders and thankful we didn't spend more.

That all said, the location is perfect - JUST far enough from Bourbon to avoid the noise, but close enough to stumble home before passing out. High-speed internet is free, as was a very humble continental breakfast of juice, coffee, and store bought croissants.

If this all sounds good to you, and you can score a crazy price like we did, go for it. If there is anything in the price range that looks better, I'd consider shopping around.

Several of my co-workers got together to give our former boss a retirement send-off--a long weekend in New Orleans. After researching at length, we settled on Prince Conti as being within walking distance to everything, consistently good reviews, rooms a decent size, and affordable.

We got the best rate by booking directly with the hotel. We needed space for five women 40 and up. We got two rooms, rollaway bed in one room. We didn't request the location of the rooms, but the staff put us in rooms across the hall from each other.

This is an older hotel, and coming in after dark, in the rain, the neighborhood looked on the dim side. A small but warm lobby cheered us up.
Tip: do look at the card file in the lobby, for special offers at restaurants and tours.
The elevator was small but adequate. The common areas showed some age, but in a shabby chic way.

The rollaway bed was made up when we got there, and was good-sized. An extra pillow was in the closet. Furnishings were a bit hotel-generic, but functional and clean. They still have hotel stationary and postcards in the desks--a nice touch.
Good hairdryer, iron, tv was provided.

Linens were clean and good quality, as were the pillows--quite puffy and comfortable.

The views out of both rooms were nothing special, nothing offensive, and didn't didn't detract from our stay.

Bathrooms were small but functional: one small glass shelf over a pedestal sink. Good water temp and pressure. They seemed to have made the most efficient use of available space.
Another nice touch: they had ample towels and washcloths for 3 people--rare these days! Maid service bought fresh towels daily.
Good toiletries were provided.

The breakfast restaurant was closed, so a decent continental breakfast with coffee, juice, tea, sweet rolls and crescent rolls were offered (real butter, real half-and-half provided).

We did not use phone or internet service, so can't comment on that.

We did notice that we could hear other guests coming in, but they were doing a fair amount of intoxicated hooping and hollering, so we didn't see that as a fault of the hotel.

The Bombay Club adjoined the hotel and was excellent, if pricey, and a good intro to NOLA food for late evening arrivers.

The front desk were great about checkout and letting us get our boarding passes printed, called a cab, and helped us out with our luggage. Friendly, helpful staff.

Prince Conti was perfect for our needs and the location was fantastic--the area looked much better in daylight--and we were within easy walking distance to everything we wanted to do and see. All five of us would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed here over Thanksgiving. After reviewing this hotel on this website, we booked directly with them.

Very courtous staff. Room was huge and clean. We had our own walled-in private outdoor patio. (Room #124).

Drawback was no smoking in the room. Very quite dispite the close proximity to Bourbon street.

We've stayed in the Quarter over 12 times in the last several years; each at a different hotel/B&B. We will always return here.

Prince Conti was the best with the best value for your $$$

We stayed at the Prince Conti from Jan 8-11 2008. We got a Deluxe Double Queen room at a rate of $58/night. Here is a quick run-down overall of the pros and cons:

PROS:
Cheap rate during the off season and only half a block from Bourbon Street makes for a good location (Although their sister hotel Place D'Armes is closer to Jackson Square if you plan to frequent there)

Hotel staff was very friendly except for one particular woman. They also have a printer to print boarding passes in the lobby (only to print passes, the one unfriendly woman berated me while trying to print my passes) but overall they gave me the room I requested on the 2nd floor.

The room was always kept very clean and tidy and the bathroom was nice w/ marble floors and counters.

CONS:
The free breakfast was a bit of a joke, most mornings it was just croissants with orange juice and coffee; but it was free, so not going to complain so much. (Renovating their kitchen currently so offering free continental breakfast to their guests, not sure how much longer this will last)

Try to get a room in the back of the hotel farthest away from Bourbon. There is a bar right on the corner 2-3 buildings down that you can hear very well if your room faces Conti Street.

The Deluxe Queen Room we got was not nearly as charming as the photo they show online; no brick wall, no antiques, etc. It was a plain hotel room, no doubt about it. You might request a room with brick wall and antiques if going, as this was one reason I found the hotel charming, but overall did not impact my stay.

I really enjoyed our trip overall at the Prince Conti. Its position allowed us to safely walk around at all hours of the night without going anywhere dicey. The area is totally safe, as I thought the entire Quarter was. I was out till around 2am with no problems any night even on the quieter streets.

ACME Oyster House, The Cigar Factory, The Absinthe House, and Desire Oyster House are all within just a minute or so of the hotel with Canal Street and the St. Charles Streetcar no more than a 3 minute walk.

Prince Conti Hotel is a great location in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is within a block of Bourbon Street. I was there just before Christmas and during the week. It was quiet but may be noisy on the week ends. You can walk to everything in the quarter. The service was excellent in the hotel. They upgraded us without a problem. The maid service was very accomadating of our requesting a late room clean. Our suite was very spacious and clean. The staff even took care of getting us a cab for the ride back to the airport.
