Our holiday staying at the Dorf Chalets in Kaprun was one of our best holidays ever. It was a family holiday with young children to keep amused but I am sure we would have enjoyed it equally before our children were born and when the day comes that they leave home and we are travelling alone again.
Kaprun is great but our real find was the Dorfchalets which recreated exactly the picture postcard image of Austria. They are a small group of wooden lodges each well designed and maintained inside and out. The fittings were all high quality and the attention to detail was better than any I've seen elsewhere in Austria or other countries. A spacious twin-sink bathroom with a powerful shower, comfortable beds, a clean, well equipped kitchen (kettle included), plentiful storage so we didn't have to trip over our suitcases all week and my children loved the wooden staircase up to the loft bedroom which they immediately claimed at the no-adults allowed children's den. We were having a late summer holiday so it was too warm to even think about having a log fire but I imagine that it would be very welcome addition after a day on the ski slopes, although there is under floor heating too.
In terms of location the chalets are set in spacious grounds and they are in the heart of the town although with a field in front and the mountains...Our holiday staying at the Dorf Chalets in Kaprun was one of our best holidays ever. In terms of location the chalets are set in spacious grounds and they are in the heart of the town although with a field in front and the mountains behind it did not feel like we were as close to town as we really were. However the walk into the town centre was about three minutes (at a four year old's pace) and the swimming pool/ crazy golf/ open air concerts pavilion was just a stone's throw from the chalet.
The town itself has a good variety or restaurants and shops and the ski lift starts in the village (close to the chalets actually). The larger resort town of Zell am See is about 10 minutes away by car,
Dorf chalets are family owned and run and the English speaking owners performed the difficult trick of making us feel welcome without crowding us. They respected our privacy whilst making us feel welcome and being on hand whenever we wanted some help or advice on where to go and what to do. We really got the feeling that nothing was too much trouble.
Usually I like to go to a new place each time I take a holiday but I think it will be hard to beat at holiday at Dorf chalets in Kaprun so i know we will be back again.
I really cannot fault the chalets at all and I would happily recommend them to family and friends or anyone looking for good quality accommodation in a good location at reasonable prices.More
