My husband and I had the misfortune of staying at the Edgewater for one night following a wonderful seven-day Alaskan cruise on the Celebrity Summit. The Hotel Edgewater was an awful let-down after the excellent service we had received aboard the Summit. Now, I wasn't expecting my room attendant to follow me off-ship but I was expecting some semblance of adequate service and a clean room - we received neither. To begin with, the room was not ready for us until well after the designated check-in time. We were told that they were short-staffed and we would have to find something to do in the interim. Also, no one helped us with our bags and we had to tag our own and go so far as to load them on the "trolley" for holding while we waited for our room to be cleaned. This was the first bad sign - many others followed in short order. The hallway carpet was filthy and worn and the elevator was nothing more than a service elevator that was used by the guests. The walls were dirty and lights were out throughout the hallway. Once we got to our room, things went from bad to worse! All of the upholstered furniture was stained and dirty - I wouldn't sit on anything without first laying down a towel. The curtains were worn and felt dirty to the touch. The carpet was disgusting - it was filthy and I kept my shoes on the entire time. The beds were uncomfortable and the blankets just felt "yucky". The layout of the bathroom was odd, to say the least. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom (!) and the bathroom itself showed wear and tear. The towels were skimpy and the bathroom light/fan was the noisiest I ever heard. That evening when we went to the reception desk to ask for a dining recommendation we were told that there was a folder in the lobby and staff wasn't in the habit of recommending restaurants. (Fortunately, we found one on our own - Rays! It was yummy!) In the AM, my husband went downstairs to get coffee and the complimentary breakfast - that was nothing more than boxed rolls, cereal and milk - no fruit to speak of. Finally, we were supposed to have a room with a view of the bay and mountains - for $215 we got a corner of the room that happened to overlook the view, meanwhile our bed faced the wall. When we got ready to leave, we had to get our own luggage trolly, load our bags and deliver them to the car. Again, for $215/night, we expected a little (lot!) better service than what we received. We would not/could not in good conscience recommend this to anyone, no matter how good the deal They do need to get their act together!
(However, if you are going to Homer Spit, I would HIGHLY recommend Land's End Resort - see review.)
