Loved the blacony, we had a room which looked over the harbour so the view was amazing. Location was awesome. The room itself was only fairly small but when your on holiday why do you need alot of room when you should be only using it for sleeping and showering! It had a refridgerator and microwave which came in handy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Brekfast was a typical continental one.

We did not pop for a harbor view but you will see mountains pretty much all around. Our room was very nice, especially for the price (59/night). I imagine the price was due to our stay being at the end of the season. We still got good wildlife viewing on a tour boat one day. The breakfast was better than the regular continental breakfast. The lobby and hot-tub & sauna were really nice. We sat in the hot tub in the evening with a glass of wine and took in the beautiful scenery. We were in walking distance of everything since the town is very small. Don't expect a city. This really is and has a feel of a little Alaskan town. It shuts down by the 1st of October except for the fishing industry & the bars. Had a terrific dinner at Ray's on the other end of town by the harbor/docks - we recommend the cedar plank salmon. I would definitely go back. If you want some big luxury city type hotel - this is not it. This is clean, bright, cozy, and feels private.

I'm surprised by the other 2 Sept. 2007 reviews as we were there the end of Sept. and all was great ! Our room was large with a big window and balcony. We loved the balcony ! Ask to face the bay. We saw a HUGE bunny runny down the road and bears on the mountain each morning (bring Binos). The lobby had comfy recliners and a fire. Vey lodge like. We walked to Cristos (wonderful for lunch, don't go for dinner) and had a short drive to the marina and Exit Glacier. We really liked the location. Didn't really need staff help for anything so perhaps we didn't get a sample of that !
Breakfast was a cold breakfast but the hotel does say 'continental breakfast'. No big deal. Get out and see Alaska....they serve reindeer meat breakfast sausage at the marina !!!
Every where we went in Seward we were greeted with friendly faces and very entertaining people to talk to !
We did not like the sink in the room however and I hogged all the space ! It was just 2 nights and we were on the go. Room had some dusty stops too.....but we had a DVD player and fridge and loved that aspect. Never used them but they would come in handy for families.

“Forget this hotel”

Best Western Hotel Edgewater

12 Sep 2007

This hotel is in downtown Seward. That is the only good part. It is nice outside. Inside, it has the smallest rooms I have ever been in. The furniture is Walmart quality. There is no window, only a sliding door to a common balcony. There was a $10 box fan for "ventilation". The place was clean but they charged $199 plus tax for this "budget" place. I booked 6 room nights. Their cancellation policy didn't allow us to change to another hotel. What a rip-ff. Stay at the Holiday Inn Express down by the wharf. You probably would be taking a glacier cruise and that is where it departs from. Eat at the Crab Pot --excellent.

My husband and I had the misfortune of staying at the Edgewater for one night following a wonderful seven-day Alaskan cruise on the Celebrity Summit. The Hotel Edgewater was an awful let-down after the excellent service we had received aboard the Summit. Now, I wasn't expecting my room attendant to follow me off-ship but I was expecting some semblance of adequate service and a clean room - we received neither. To begin with, the room was not ready for us until well after the designated check-in time. We were told that they were short-staffed and we would have to find something to do in the interim. Also, no one helped us with our bags and we had to tag our own and go so far as to load them on the "trolley" for holding while we waited for our room to be cleaned. This was the first bad sign - many others followed in short order. The hallway carpet was filthy and worn and the elevator was nothing more than a service elevator that was used by the guests. The walls were dirty and lights were out throughout the hallway. Once we got to our room, things went from bad to worse! All of the upholstered furniture was stained and dirty - I wouldn't sit on anything without first laying down a towel. The curtains were worn and felt dirty to the touch. The carpet was disgusting - it was filthy and I kept my shoes on the entire time. The beds were uncomfortable and the blankets just felt "yucky". The layout of the bathroom was odd, to say the least. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom (!) and the bathroom itself showed wear and tear. The towels were skimpy and the bathroom light/fan was the noisiest I ever heard. That evening when we went to the reception desk to ask for a dining recommendation we were told that there was a folder in the lobby and staff wasn't in the habit of recommending restaurants. (Fortunately, we found one on our own - Rays! It was yummy!) In the AM, my husband went downstairs to get coffee and the complimentary breakfast - that was nothing more than boxed rolls, cereal and milk - no fruit to speak of. Finally, we were supposed to have a room with a view of the bay and mountains - for $215 we got a corner of the room that happened to overlook the view, meanwhile our bed faced the wall. When we got ready to leave, we had to get our own luggage trolly, load our bags and deliver them to the car. Again, for $215/night, we expected a little (lot!) better service than what we received. We would not/could not in good conscience recommend this to anyone, no matter how good the deal They do need to get their act together!
(However, if you are going to Homer Spit, I would HIGHLY recommend Land's End Resort - see review.)
