I would have expected more from a Holiday INN chain Hotel. Maybe the service was bad because of the winter time but it was really bad. The room was not cleaned very well at all. It took 3 days for my trash to be emptied in the room. The room was a generic decor typical of chain hotels so that understandable. The hotel is in a fairly good location but that was the only true plus. The front desk staff in the afternoon was very rude and no very knowledgeable about things the do in the area. I have been to Seward a number of times for business and fishing and so far this is the worst stay I have had.

Conveniently situated walking distance from the boat dock and a great restaurant. Nice view of harbor from many rooms and from the breakfast area. Decent breakfast with a good variety included.

I prefer the charm of smaller Inns or Bed and Breakfasts. The hotel rooms are clean and new, but for me, too generic and sterile (hotel-chain like, though better than others).

The bathroom has nice towels and amenities and was very clean. The linens had a bleach smell (clean, but a bit overpowering).

The price in October was 1/4 of what is advertised for the summer. The hotel was a very good value at the $63+tax fall rate, but I would find it overpriced at the $269 premium rate listed for the summer since it is a generic hotel.

The indoor pool is very tiny, suitable for only a few small children.

I stayed here in '06 and '07. Seward is a small, charming town and most of the accommodations would charitably be coined "quaint". For the traveler who doesn't care to leave modernity behind, this is the place. Fantastic location in town, on the bay and at the marina, it's convenient to almost everything. Clean, comfortable, good continental breakfast. Not cheap but you won't feel like you need to check for filth when you walk in.
Yolie's Bistro is a MUST DO for dinner. Fabulous funky cuisine unlike anything you'd expect from such a moest town. Rays was also a good dining experience

We were actually booked at another hotel that called at the last minute to tell us they needed to close the property due to a family emergency, only 2 days before we left for Alaska. We called Holiday Inn Express and were very happy to get a room even though it was labor day weekend. I did have a difficult time getting them to send me a confirmation electronically but I was always treated well whenever I contacted them. We had a room facing the harbor with a balcony so we could watch the fish being hung up for pictures at the end of the day. The room looked nice and the beds were comfortable. My husband requires handicap parking and we were able to park right next to the hotel entrance. It is easy to walk to good restraunts (Ray's). The only thing that distracts from this nice property is that there is clearly some housekeeping weaknesses. When we came in, we found that coffee had been spilled all over the top of night stand, in between the two beds. There was still quite a puddle and it was in the receiver of the phone. Not likely that anyone could have cleaned this area. That is when we decided to hit all the surfaces with the clorox wipes we always carry. There was one empty toilet paper roll that was not a problem but just looked really tacky with streds of paper hanging from it and we had to trek to another floor for ice. Not a problem except that the room key would not let you on to the other floors and the elevator was VERY slow. On the second day (still did not replace the toilet paper roll) and did not empty the ice bucket filled with water now, that was leaking on the little table. Not that dramatic but I would have expected more for paying over $200 for a room. When I shared my concerns with the front desk they did appear concerned and did take a note. Should they correct this problem, it will be a top notch property. - What a beautiful area. So glad we got the chance to see it.
