We went to Spenard Roadhouse today to use a Groupon. It is official. I now have a new favorite restaurant!
Our server, Alana was awesome. She was assisted by a trainee, whose name escapes me. We actually saw him the most, as he was who brought us our food, etc. He was awesome, too! We never had to wait long for a refill on a soda, or just to check up on us. It wasn't too much, though; never intrusive.
I had the dinner salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette (more on the dressing in a moment) and the grilled cheese with a cup of the tomato basil soup. Husband had the cheeseburger (the 'official' name escapes me) with the tater tots as a side.
I loved it all! Comfort food with a slightly contemporary twist. It was quite filling and I wasn't able to finish it all. The sourdough bread had just the right combo of crispy and chewy. It could have used slightly more cheese for my taste, but was still sufficient. The soup was absolutely heavenly. Just the right thing for a sub-zero day!
The hubs actually exclaimed his hamburger to be really good. He never says this! lol It was served slightly pink, and it clearly states that it will be on the menu (at the bottom). It was a juicy burger and it looked so good! With the sandwiches you have your choice of fries or tater tots, with substitutions of soup or salad available.
Their menu isn't ginormously huge, but quite ample. I'm looking forward to returning and trying their fish 'n chips. I can only imagine they will be fabulous. I would also like to return on a Sunday and try the TV Dinner.
Now, about that salad dressing... I had a similar dressing several years ago at a function. I've been on the hunt for that dressing ever since, to no avail. I assumed since the function was catered that it was 'home made.' I was over the moon ecstatic to have this dressing again. I asked our trainee waiter if it was house-made or purchased. It is indeed made on the premises. I asked him if it would be possible to get the recipe (okay, I begged and pleaded, which wasn't necessary). He checked with the chef, and by the time we left the restaurant, I had a copy of the recipe in my hot little hand. :o)
The Spenard Roadhouse has a bar, and an impressive selection of bourbons, so one can have a libation with their meals. Next time!
I can't wait to go back again. I haven't been this pleased with a restaurant in a long time. I highly recommend stopping in and checking them out!
