We booked the deluxe room. surpassed expectations. large room with two comfortable beds and spacious bath. Located near airport and restaurants. Nice breakfast although seating is limited. Everything was clean and new.

I am a Pilot and I stay at the Puffin Inn numerous times a month. I have stayed in just about every section of the hotel. I prefer the main building for numerous reasons, but overall, every section of the hotel is more than comfortable. I have read some of these reviews, and I have a hard time believing this. The Staff is one of the finest I have encountered on my trips around the world, and the rates are always fair. I am on a first names basis with most of the employees and I would have a hard time staying anywhere else. Rooms are always clean and everyone goes out of the way to make sure my room is ready even when I arrive at 7am.

I highly suggest this hotel for many reasons.

We stayed at the Puffin Inn for 3 nights and have the following comments:
The shuttle van was dirty and worn-a bad omen.
On the positive side, the staff were pleasant and hospitable.
However, the carpets in the common areas were worn and stained, as were the floor coverings in our rooms. There were cigarette burns in the bed covers-so much for no smoking policy.
Our friends' sheets were stained.
The rooms were spacious but require upgrading.
We had to store luggage for a night when we travelled to Denali Park. The storage area was a disaster. Fish boxes were piled high and luggage was stored haphazardly. Since the staff did not help we had to rearrange the storage area in order that we could fit our baggage in the room.
Before we left for Denali we had reserved rooms on the third floor. Upon our return we discovered much to our displeasure that we were placed in noisy rooms on the main floor. The receptionist had no record of our reservations for the third floor and indicated that they couldn't relocate us since they were fully booked.
We believe that management are maximizing profits by negecting maintenance and upgrades. Their rates would indicate a higher quality hotel. We shall not return nor recommend the Puffin Inn to anyone.

I am a huge supporter of smoke free facilities and have often turned people in for smoking in smoke free facillities. This one however falls far short of the mark. People smoke on the balconies all over the place and there are cigarette burns in the older section of the hotel anyhow. They mights call it "low-rise" in otherwords it use to be a skanky dive that is still 3 blocks from streetwalkers and an adult only bookstore. The first room we were given was also still dirty and full of beer cans and filth.

Needless to say it was a suprise when I was falsely accused of smoking in my room, when everyone knows I don't smoke. Then when I wanted to talk to the manager and meet with him, since it is very clear who smokes and who doesn't when you meet them. He would not even meet with me. Even after I drove 6 hours from my vacation to settle this matter. He wouldn't even meet with the police who I wanted as a civilian stand-by. Clearly he just uses this as a "hook" to make extra money on slow nights. This hotel is definately NOT worth the money and the GM is a crook.
