Fabulous place to stay. Away from the business of the city, but close; secluded but open. Just miles away from Flat Top Mnt. A must adventure. We stayed nine nights - were able to enjoy both ends of the house. We stayed in the Arctic Nights suite, other family members stayed in the other two rooms. Mid-week, we all transferred to the Berry Patch end and stayed as a family.
The hospitality was by far the best. Very accommodating hosts. We stayed during a Salmon run and got to partake in the joy of fresh, smoked salmon for breakfast. First morning there we were entertained by two yearling moose that strolled in and had breakfast of their own - not many flowers remained.
Best part is we made this "Base Camp." You are just minutes from downtown. You can take day trips North or South and still be back in time to enjoy the wonderful relaxing Hot Tub, under the stars. We took trips to Talkeetna - flew with R2 Aviation around the mountains, went to Independence Mine - beautiful drive, only an hour north. Got up early and caught the train to Seward and took a boat out through the Kenai Fjords and saw the glaciers. Drove to Portage Glacier - an hour south and had dinner at the Seven Glaciers Restaurant at the Aleeska Resort – a must trip and dinner.
So much one can do. But most of all, the place is great and the folks are great. We will definitely return and spend another day at the Mangy Moose.
