We spent our 1st 2 nights at this hotel on our Alaska adventure. We also stayed here 10 days later the night before our flight back home to Pgh, PA. We decided to forego the traditional cruise Alaskan vacation the majority of vacationers to Alaska seem to take. We flew into Anchorage, rented a car and explored for 10 days. We are so happy with our choice! No offense to you "cruise people" but this was a great way to see the state with no one pushing you to "get back on the bus!" . I will go into more detail in a forum column on our explorations. My daughter and I loved this hotel. It was convenient to the airport, expressway and downtown. I recommend you have a car for this hotel. The airport shuttle worked great and we turned our car in at the airport the night before since we had an early morning flight the next day. The shuttle was prompt and flawless. The hotel was clean and neat with great room darkening shades. Breakfast was fine. The staff was very friendly. There are plenty of shops and restaurants a short drive away. We enjoyed the food at Moose's Tooth Pizza and Sourdough Mining Company not too far away. Wal-mart is nearby for snacks for the road, bottled water and a new pair of binoculars since I left ours at home. There was a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains from our hotel window. I would highly recommend this hotel to those exploring Anchorage and Alaska with a car.

I stayed here three separate times over a two week period in August 2007, so I got to stay in several different rooms. The rooms (and everything else in the hotel) were very clean and everything in the rooms was very new. Two of the rooms I stayed in included a small refrigerator and a microwave, which was nice to have. The rooms also include ironing boards and irons. However, the third room I stayed in did not include either item. The rooms did not have WiFi but wired broadband Internet access. However, there are two computers (first come, first serve) in the lobby that are connected to the Internet and printers.

The complimentary breakfast is fairly good. The hotel begins serving breakfast at 6:30AM. They offer coffee, milk, juice, egg-based breakfast sandwiches, cereal, oatmeal, waffles and a few more things. They provided daily copies of the Anchorage Daily News free of charge, although I'm not sure if they provide free copies of the Sunday paper since it is more expensive.

The hotel's fitness center is small but was adequate for my purposes. It included an elliptical machine, stationary bicycle, treadmill and dumbells. It also included a television, clean towels, a scale and a water cooler. The sign on the fitness room notes that it opens at 6am. However, I checked with the front desk and an employee told me that they never lock it up - you can use it whenever you want. Adjacent to the fitness center is a small pool and a whirlpool.

This hotel has plenty of parking and it is free. It is also very close to the airport - it's actually on the same road as the airport. It is only a five minute drive away. The hotel also has a shuttle van but I did not use it.

I travel to Anchorage a lot on business (I actually used to live there) and would definitely recommend this hotel. However, it is in midtown Anchorage and this part of Anchorage is not as pedestrian friendly, if you don't have a car. If you want to stay at a hotel where you can walk to restaurants, shopping, etc., you may want to stay at a hotel in the downtown area.

My only negative experience with this hotel was being awakened at 3am one morning by people in the room above mine who were probably inebriated. Fortunately, the noise didn't last for long.

“Nice continental breakfast.”

Free shuttle to and from airport. Called from courtesy phone and they arrived right away. About 5 minutes ride from airport, but little or no airport noise to deal with. Clean and comfortable with friendly desk and all the necessary amenities. Extensive continental breakfast spread, including make-your-own waffles (go ahead...it's more fun than it looks) in a nice dining area off the lobby. We stayed for one night pre-cruisetour, but the place is also perfect for business travellers.
Small strip center about a block away has a couple of places to grab a bite, or it's a cheap 10-minute cab ride downtown.
This mid-priced Marriott-owned property is a solid bang for the buck.

From what I understand, this property is a 3rd scale Marriott property and considering that, it is fine.

We usually stay at the Residence Inn, but it was booked up. BUT, it is also 50% more expensive. So for the price it is fine.

Here's what we found--
1) Cleaning Staff- Great! Rooms were cleaned nicely each day and items properly replenished.

2) Breakfast-- Easily as good as other properties. Plenty of items and long hours made it convenient.

3) Pool- It was a little cold in the pool room, but the pool was nice. It is alot smaller, but very usable. The residence is like going to the Beach with alot of people and noise. This pool was like your own pool at home.

4) Rooms- There leaves some to be desired here. The rooms are very nice, but the walls are pretty thin as well as the floors. There was alot of room noise from our neighbors above and sideways. The TV from the room next to us was on loud and we could hear it distinctly.

5) Internet- Why is this a line item? Because I stayed here for business and had a heck of a time with it. The speed is sporadically slow and was pretty hard to use. Thank God, I could see a wireless signal from another hotel or I wouldn't have been able to do much. Sometimes it was fine, then it would just die. There is NO wireless in the rooms (Bummer) There is a business center downstairs with printers and the folks do allow you to use their fax.

6) Staff- Excellent! I told Denise I was having problems with the noise and she did all she could to help me out.

Overall it was okay and average. I'll probably stay again if the Residence is full, and for the money it was okay. I just had higher expectations since it was a Marriott property. I think they really should have made the walls and floors a bit thicker. That's something that they will never be able to fix. Other items are fixable. INTERNET!!!
