I stay in Anchorage for business approx once per month so I know most of the hotels. Clarion and Hawthorn are sister hotels. I enjoy everything about the hotels (nice rooms and location) but will not stay there due to ventilation issues. The temps inside the rooms are not easily adjusted. The last two times I stayed at the Clarion I was extremely too hot. Opening the window did not cool off the room. OK place to sleep if you are confortable at 95 degrees. During a recent business trip a fellow employee rented a room at the Hawthorn and left in the middle of the night for the same reason. The hotels are beautiful properties. Hopefully the owner will fix the ventilation issue, but until then I do not advise staying at these hotels. Best of luck in your bookings.

We stayed 2 nights (June 30 & July1). Husband, 2 teenage sons and myself.

The first room we were given the shower head almost came off in my husband's hand. Went to the front desk and the folks there were very accomindating. They put us in a nicer room. I can't tell the difference on the website but the 2nd room was bigger and nicer. The first one had a fridge and microwave and the sink was within the bathroom area. The second one had the fridge, microwave and a utility sink and the bathroom sink was outside the bathroom - which was nice because someone could be taking a shower while someone else was brushing their teeth.

The breakfast was good with the homemade waffles. All in all worth the price. Booked early (50 weeks in advance) and got a government rate (military) of $95 a night. There is a pool - my son used the jacuzzi and said it was nice. They have one computer in the business center with internet access. You have to ask at the desk for the key.

It is very accessable to resturants and the downtown area if you have no mobility problems.

“nice location and great staff”

Spent two separate nights in the Clarion Suites in Anchorage during the last week of June and early July. We flew into Anchorage on an early Tuesday morning and the hotel sent a vehicle to pick us up. We arrived without luggage but we went to the hotel anyway. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was very attentive and were just supper. We checked out early the next day and proceeded to Homer for our vacation.

We rechecked into the hotel on July 3, 2007 for one night before coming back to the Northeast Alabama area. The staff made several recommendations of dining while we were there and it was great!

I cannot say enough about the location of the Clarion and the people who work there. They are outstanding! The breakfast is very good and gets you off to a good day of sightseeing.

I reserved almost 50 weeks before our trip and got an excellent rate. I believe this is key when planning a vacation. Plan early and be prepared for snafu's with your luggage.

We recently spent 3 nights at the Anchorage Clarion. Having already experienced two of Anchorage's other dismal hotels (Days Inn and Ramada Downtown) I can safely say that the Clarion has got to be one of the worst hotels in town. The hotel is now all non-smoking, which for most is a nice feature, except that all the burns in the bathroom floor, carpets, drapes, and bedspread remain from the pre-no smoking days. The room routinely wasn't cleaned until 4pm. The hallways smelled of buttery microwave popcorn and dirty feet. The parking lot located 10 feet out the back window of the hotel is scraped clean of snow by a fleet of 5 trucks with lights, beeping horns, and the ever-pleasant noise of a snow blade against concrete from the hours of midnight until two in the morning (and this was for about 3" of snow?). The in-room movie service didn't work and after we tried to cancel the movie 30 seconds into viewing we were told the charge would be removed. At check-out, the clerk was not able to void the charge since "she wasn't trained for that, and all the managers are in meeting right now." I left my name and two phone numbers to be reached at and I have heard nothing from the management. After living in Alaska for a few years (due to military relocation) I thought we had seen the worst customer service possible...the Clarion managed to hit a new record low.

I really enjoyed my stay here. We stayed for 2 nights with a small child. The rooms have a pull out hida-bed and there is a door from the beds to the hida-bed part so my hubby could get ready for his meeting and my child and I could sleep(I was 3 mo. pregnant too, so very tired!!!). I enjoyed the 'resterant' I guess you'd call it. Muffins, fresh fruit, nachos, juice and water, hot dogs, just the basics, but ok for a quick breakfast or lunch with your child.
The rooms were clean and I just enjoyed it.
