Hampton Inn and Suites Springfield - Southwest

My family and I stayed here near the end of a two week driving trip in August. We had stayed at several Holiday Inn Express hotels and Hampton Inns. This was far better than any of these other hotels. It is new and perfectly clean. We had a huge room with dark wood furniture, a bar area, refrigerator and microwave, nice bathroom and luxurious bedding. My kids were very impressed and joked about just moving in there.

I often travel on business for a Fortune 5 company. Our room at the Hampton was nicer than many rooms I have had at well known hotels in NY, DC and Chicago. The breakfast bar was larger than most such bars - the best one on our trip -- and had something for everyone. I enjoyed having a nice selection of tea available all day and night. The pool was nice and a perfect temperature. I will stay there again if I go to Springfield either on vacation or on business.

We stayed at this Hampton Inn while visiting the State Fair. We booked a king studio non-smoking suite which was located on the first floor. Our room was very spacious and very clean. It was obvious they had cleaned the carpets right before we checked in. everything was in working order. The beds were fairly comfortable, but I liked the comforter the best. It was so soft! The houskeeper saw us leaving our room and asked us if we needed anything extra. Great staff.

The breakfast buffet was very nice. The first day we were there, (Sunday) they were out of fresh fruit, but everything else was available. Name brand cereals, basic pastries, Quaker oatmeal, Poptarts, fruit medley, fresh fruit, egg and sausage "patties", coffee, and juice were some of the choices.

I was a bit surprised that that were not many things around the hotel. It is right next to Meier's, and there were a couple eating places around, but it is really in the middle of nowhere. It is a very short ride down Veteran's to find more civilization. It also appeared like there will be more commercial property in the near future.

We will go back if we visit the State Fair next year.

My family and I often stay at Hampton Inns because of their normally universal quality. Sadly, this Hampton did not measure up. Our rate was $109.99, which seemed high for Springfield, but we assumed it would be worth it for a new hotel. Unfortunately, not much of this property compared to other Hamptons. The beds, now promoted on hamptoninn.com were definitely NOT conducive to "bed head." They were hard and you could feel the springs through the side of the mattress. The two small flat pillows did nothing to add to the comfort. The room was small, and not clean. Crumbs were on most of the flat surfaces, and it was evident that the housekeeping staff was not interested in quality work. Breakfast added to the irritation. No skim milk was offered and the 2% milk machine was broken with milk running onto the floor while several people waited. Most of the pastries were still frozen, and the coffee was not kept full. Even the menu, updated daily by the front desk, was incorrect. All in all, not what we expected at a Hampton. A Comfort Inn maybe, but considering we paid top Hampton prices, it was dissapointing. I would definitely choose another option for my next visit to the capital.

“Loved the Hampton”

Just returned from a stay at the Springfield, Hampton Inn. Very nice hotel in the middle of nowhere. I'm an insurance adjuster and was assigned to work in Springfield, IL after the tornadoes of March 12, 2006. We stayed 7 nights at the Hampton in Litchfield. Very comfortable bed and nice accomodations. Morning breakfast was nice and offered a great variety of foods. Managers happy hour in the evening was nice with complimentary beer or wine and snacks. Only had a chance to enjoy that one night due to the long hours that go with working in the field after a catastrophe.

“Nice hotel - Be specific when booking”

My family stayed in this hotel one night. I specifically booked a one-bedroom suite through the 1-800 reservations. When I checked in and into our room, I was disappointed to find that I was booked into a studio. I went downstairs to rectify the problem. Turn out I was booked through reservations into a studio even though they told me I was booked into a one-bedroom suite. The extremely friendly woman behind the desk told me that this happens frequently with their reservations. She said that she has registered this concern with the powers that be, to no avail. Also online it shows that this hotel has two-bedroom suites, which I checked into upon checkin. I was informed by the desk clerk that the hotel has no two-bedroom suites and she wished they'd take that off line. I even called to confirm that my one-bedroom suite had a pull-out sofa which I was assured that it did. well, it did, except it was a studio. I was informed that this happens quite frequently with 1-800 reservations. My advice is to be very specific and confirm your reservation. We ended up checking out after one night and staying at the Staybridge behind the Hampton and got a two-bedroom suite for $18 more per night than the studio.

That being said, this Hampton Inn & Suites is only three years old and very, very lovely. This studio was spacious and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is beautiful on the inside and the rooms are very well appointed. My only disappointment was not getting what I had booked. The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean.

The complimentary breakfast consisted of juices, muffins, fruit, cereals and one hot meal which was eggs and sausage pattie. The eggs are not made to order, but are pre-processed. The breakfast is perfectly adequate. The seating area is very lovely. The kids enjoyed the pool.

Although we stayed only one night, we left only because we could not get the accommodations that we booked. The staff was wonderful, the hotel room very nice. However, please be careful that what you are booking through the 1-800 number is what you are going to actually get. It is my understanding that these mishaps happen often so just double-check.

But for that, I would recommend this facility.
