Thanks to Trip Advisor members for their reviews of this hotel! It was fabulous and fun staying in this mid-century newly renovated hotel. The location was great for visiting the Lincoln sites. The State House is across the street and just magnificent. The room was super clean, the furnishings posh-mod and the bed was incredibly comfortable, and a great bathroom for women - nice long vanity top and huge mirror. The breakfast was good, with lots of choices, and the staff efficient and helpful. We had free mixed drinks the first night. Parking was easy. There is a train and the older guests (ie. 75- 80) commented on it, but we liked hearing it. It wasn't too loud and added a touch of local culture that we found very charming. In any case, the train runs through town, so anywhere you stay in Springfield, you'll hear it. We were sorry to leave so soon. Loved the hotel, Springfield was very interesting and everyone we met was very friendly - nice change from the Wash DC area.

Do NOT believe any negative neviews about this place. This is the third time we stayed here. Each time has been excellent. First of all it's in a great location,safe and across from the state capital. It's about 4 blocks to the major Lincoln sites. We stayed here for the Route 66 festival. The hotel was re-modeled in 2003 and the rooms reflect the 1960's era. Upon check in you also receive free drink coupons to the hotel's bar which is great. The rooms are comfortable with pillow top beds, down comforters and crisp clean linen. All Kohler bathroom fixtures with marble counters and showers. Clock radios, bath robes, coffee makers, hair dryers and FREE in room DSL hookups. The hotel also has a business center with a fax machine and an awesome hot breakfast. Breakfast includes eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and waffles just to name a few. Free parking,coin laundry and fitness center at the hotel too. The staff was friendly and helpful when I forgot a razor and toothbrush. This is the only place we stay at when we visit Springfield.

I found out about the State House Inn through the Radio Travel Show on WRMN 1410AM radio in Chicago. From the moment I walked into the retro 60's lobby, listening to the grand piano playing, to the friendly staff at the front desk I knew I was in the right place. Free drink certificate upon arrival for use in the No Name Bar was very nice. The bartender is friendly and full of great information about the city. Clean hotel, comfortable mattresses, lovely rooms, delicious buffet breakfast, within walking distance to Amtrak and other tourist attractions, esp the Capitol, right across the street. Fabulous hotel.

This is one of the worst hotels that I've ever stayed in. Immediately on check in, the clerk was grumpy and rude. We then went to our very small room where we were greeted by a backed up toilet. The staff fixed the toilet quickly but there were no apologies. I complained to Choice Hotels and they had a rep call and leave a message on my home answering machine with no return number.

The picture of this outside of this hotel are very misleading--it is a lot worse in person. This hotel clearly is not "upscale" as advertised.

I would not stay here again. Don't believe all of the great ratings that this place gets.
