My wife and I stayed at the State House Inn for the second time in two years, and we enjoyed it both times.
This hotel is mid-60s vintage, and is the youngest building on the list of historic places. As such, they've had to maintain their 60s kitsch, which is rather endearing, especially to us Baby Boomers who grew up in such surroundings.
My wife and I stayed in Room 106 both times and highly recommend it. It's at the end of a short hall, and has been redone in original and reproduction 60s furniture, but with modern amenities like an updated bath, high-speed internet access, and a TV that is 100% 21st century!
The desk staff was polite and helpful, the room rate reasonable (especially on the weekend when the Legislature isn't in session), and includes a couple of complimentary drinks at the bar and an OK buffet breakfast. It's close to 5th Avenue, which has a number of good restaurants and funky bars. Well worth checking out.
