I stayed at the "Courtyard Boston Cambridge" from June 9-12, and it was a mixed bag of good and bad.
The good:
The renovations from what was a shabby/rundown old Radisson were nicely accomplished. The air conditioning worked well during the 95 degree days I endured in Boston, and the hotel was clean and comfortable.
The bar/restaurant was simple, served up a tasty panini, though the menu is not much more than a bar menu of a few things.
The bad:
The location isn't especially central to anything, so unless you like shopping at the computer store or Trader Joe's supermarket next door, you have a 20 minute walk into Central Square, 30 minutes to Harvard Square, and 15 minutes across the river to the nearest MBTA stop to get to downtown Boston. At 95 degrees during my visit last week, walking wasn't an especially attractive option....good thing I brought a book to read in my room, because nothing else happens near this location.
The $22 per night parking fee is a real rip-off, this isn't downtown where space is at a premium. This is nothing more than gouging guests because you think you can get away with it.
The early morning front desk person was a total zero, she had no customer service training at all. When USA Today didn't get delivered to my door one morning, I asked for a copy at the front desk on my way to my office. She disinterestedly told me they only got half the papers they expected, so half the rooms didn't get them. Her lack of interest in my request made me quite unhappy, and I asked for a 75 cent credit on my bill, as a matter of principle. She refused repeatedly, insisting that since I hadn't "paid for the paper", I wasn't "owed a refund." I then had to read to her Courtyard's own written policy regarding USA Today found inside the keyholder given to every single guest since time immemorial.
To the hotel management's credit, they responded to my complaint later, and satisfactorily, but the front desk woman in question was not at all customer-friendly or savvy.
Ultimately, if you get a decent rate, and you don't need to be near shopping/restaurants/nightlife, this can be a good choice.
