The hotel is okay, just okay. There are some cleanliness problems: the very small pool needs a good scrubbing and I found a HUGE dead cockroach in my closet. Obviously it had not been vacuumed and obviously there may be a roach issue. The hotel also nickels and dimes you--makes you pay $12 a night for parking when the lot is very large and you must pay $5 a night for the continental breakfast. The robes you are given have an awful pattern and are faded and worn out. The bed was not very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hot tub was nice unless used at night. The lights in the pool/hot tub area are awful and buzz...does not make for a relaxing moment in the hot tub. The Whole Foods next door is WONDERFUL along w/ The Summer Shack down the road. It was a great location for me as I was visiting family in nearby Belmont and had dinner plans on two different nights at the Summer Shack. If I were visiting Boston I would certainly stay closer to the city and feel you would get more for your money. This hotel was not cheap and it had a lot of reminders of a cheap hotel.

I stayed at this trip for one night on a recent visit to Boston. I selected it based on the recommendation of a friend who lived near by and who said that it had recently been redecorated.

First the good news. The Tria is a nice, comfortable and clean hotel. My room was large, the bed was very comfortable and it was clean. The furniture seemed new as did the appointments. The staff were nice and helpful. There was a Starbucks on the premises. The hotel was also within walking distance of a Boston “T” (subway station), and if you were ambitious, Harvard Square. There was a pool, so it might be a nice place for families to stay.

The not so good news. First, I was told the property was recently rehabilitated, so it is a wonder that the wall paper is already peeling away from the wall in the bathrooms and even in the rooms. Some of the rehab work looks a little slap-dash. Second, hate the florecent lights...but you can't seem to get away from them these days. Next, the hotel is sort of in a strange place. While a subway station is walkable (they may even provide shuttles to the station), this is not a centrally located hotel. It is on the outskirts of Cambridge. Downtown Boston is drivable in about 20 minutes if the traffic is easy. It is not a beautiful building or a scenic location, my room looked out onto a parking lot.

However, all in all, it was a good deal for my needs. I would stay here again. Hotels are expensive in Boston generally, so this hotel can be a good deal. But if the price goes up much as they continue planned renovations, its value will diminish.

“Put off by these bad reviews... Not our experience”

We stayed at the Hotel Tria last night. I had read the previous reviews and was not excited about our stay after hearing of everyone's troubles.

The clerks at the check-in were pleasant. Parking was $12 a night, which is not unreasonable for the area. Our room was clean and we heard no noise from outside. The "hand-milled soap" advertised by the hotel was a bar of glycerin scented soap. I was not surprised about this- I read about it in these reviews. However, I would have been disappointed if I had been looking forward to a bar of actual hand-milled soap.

The pool was small but WARM! There's a hot tub that spills into the pool and it warms up the pool to 90ish degrees. Lovely.

We chose to skip the continental breakfast ($5 a room) and had breakfast from the attached Starbucks. Whole Foods is a short walk (less than 5 minutes) from the hotel.

I'd stay again.

“reasonable stay”

Best Western Hotel Tria

25 Sep 2007

I stayed at the Tria Hotel with my daughter while moving her into Tufts University. I spent two nights at the Tria and then moved to the Hyatt in Medford for the last night. while the Tria was fine, I would definitely try to stay at the Hyatt if possible (larger, newer, pleasanter rooms and a better rate for Tufts visitors). Overall, I would give the hotel a "3.5"

There were some good things about the stay. They have a shuttle service (free) to Tufts. I also got a free shuttle ride to Harvard square. We just had to call to get picked up. This was a real benefit. I also took the shuttle to Harvard Square. The room we had was very nice - it was on the 3rd floor. The first room we were given was smaller, dark and had an unusual smell. The desk personnel were very helpful about moving us as soon as we asked. The lobby of the hotel is very nice, but although they have clearly recently redecorated, there is still something slightly "old" feeling about the hallways.

The hotel itself is located in a strip mall - the picture on their web site is "accurate" but is a very narrow view and doesn't really give you an idea of the surroundings. It is approx a 15 minute walk to the T-stop which is also a plus. There were other comments re: cost of breakfast; when I was there it was $5 per ROOM not per person, although I agree with the other comments that with all the other hotels that offer breakfast free, it's annoying that they charge. I didn't get the breakfast so I can't comment on it.

Overall, the stay was fine and I wouldn't avoid this hotel if you get a good rate. I would ask for an upper floor, though.

I selected this hotel because of the "close" proximity to the T and the fact that the price was reasonable.
I knew when I checked in that I was not going to be estatic. The hotel advertises special soaps and I had to pick my soap from a sample box of three and was given a square, thin glycerine soap. I guess regardless of the length of stay, I was supposed to ration and treasure this deluxe soap. My room overlooks the side of the mall next door, and a pit that looks somewhat like a construction site. I discovered it is some kind of construction site at 7am today when the first tractor loudly showed up.
The restaurant is closed, one of the two ice machines is broken, the soda machine has coke that expired in March, the guy working at the front desk is almost impossible to understand and although they offer a free shuttle to the T station, they act like it's a HUGE imposition to take you there.
On the good end--Starbucks shop attached to the hotel, Whole Foods Market next door and a CVS pharmacy across the street. The walk to the T station is longer than I expected.
The hotel does state that they charge for the breakfast up front and for the same money I'd rather have coffee and a pastry from the Starbucks.
