We stayed at the Omni Richmond recently for 3 nights. It was the worst possible experince imaginable. Nothing works in or for this hotel.
I am a frequent traveler, making trips on an average, twice a month. But this trip was a family vacation. The front desk was nice to talk to, but ABSOLUTELY inefficient. Our flight from NYC to Richmond ws delayed, so we got to the hotel about 3 hours late. In spite of informing the front desk, we were made to wait for 1 hour for a room! And this, when I am an Omni select member!!! The room given to us was terrible! There were stains (looked like blood, I'm serious!) on the carpet. The bedsheets were crumpled, etc! But the best part was the TV cabinet! I have only seen such cabinets in horror movies! The drawers were broken! (100% true) and the door was almost coming off! And in a so-called four star hotel, the TV is still the old projection variety! Exteremly lame! [Best Buy now sells flat screen TVs for just about 600 bucks! Maybe the people at Omni are not aware of that!]
But the best (or worst part) was yet to come! I love to swim and when on vacation, I spend a large part of my time in the pool! In fact, checking whether a hotel property has a pool is the first thing I do when booking a trip. The Omni Richmond has the WORST pool I have EVER seen! Not even a travel economy lodge would dare to keep a pool like that! The paint was completely chipping off the floor of the pool; there was black grime and somthing that looked like fungi ALL AROUND THE POOL PERIMETER and the pool area was so overheated that you could not sit there for more than 20 minutes! The outside temperatue was 85-90 degrees and there was no need to heat the pool area into a baking oven.
We ate at the Terrace restaraunt. The food wasn't bad but the choices are extremely limited.
And whatever you do, please NEVER ask to talk to any senior manager. They are EXTREMELY rude!
The hotel did not upgrade our room, the management was ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and the most impolite I have ever come across. They did not offer any compensation, till we approached the general manager. And that should be a very big no-no for a four star hotel! This property is only at the level of a TWO star hotel. And the staff is only good for an economy lodge.
And BTW I am not writing this because I hold a personal grudge against anyone. But to warn other travelers! I spent close to $600 on the room alone. And if I had been informed that the hotel would be like this, I might have tried The Jefferson hotel which was offering rooms at $200 per night! Since I had a vacaion package, I could not opt out!
The only ONE thing I can recommend (which will be in stark contrast to other reviewers) is the valet parking. I am aware that other people found it very slow, etc. But in my experience, this was the ONLY thing four-star about this hotel.
If you want a nightmare, please visit the Omni Richmond!
