My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in early April 2008, at the lovely Hotel Amanhavis, in Benahavis, Spain. The little town is 7 K north of the main Costa de Sol road, about 25 minutes from Marbella.

The hotel is comprised of 9 rooms, each based on a historical theme of the area. The website gives pictures and descriptions of each, and we stayed in the Horse Thief’s hideaway, a room larger than many we have found in Spain, with twin beds joined together. The bathroom was a good size, not huge, but larger than many we have found in Spain. There is an occasional car passing by, but otherwise it was a very quiet room. My only complaint was the room key, quaint at first as it is a big old-fashioned iron key, but I had a tough time getting it to work. Always took me a few attempts.

The hotel is designed so that each room feels separated from the others. They are all off a small courtyard with lovely planting and a small pool and patio. There is also a rooftop patio for guests to use, and wi-fi throughout, although my husband had difficulty connecting his work computer to the service. Also, there is a small library room in the main building and other lounge areas as well, that guests can use for internet usage, or to just relax and sip a glass of wine. Note: there are steps everywhere… not many but those with limitations be aware.

The rooms have satellite television, with some English channels, and a small safe.

The restaurant is open for dinner, and is just fabulous. I have written a separate review, but I will say if you arestaying here I would definitely dine here as well at least one of the nights you are in Benahavis. They also offer breakfast buffet, I cannot recall the price but it was wonderful and fresh, a good selection of fruits, meats, breads and the staff will make you fresh eggs to your liking.

By far, what truly sets this hotel apart, is the owner Burkhart, and his family, who live on site, and the delightful staff. You will never find people more willing to help and who seem truly happy in their situation.

A wonderful, relaxing hotel in a small quaint village, just a few minutes away from the tourist filled Costa-de-sol.

We stayed at the Amanhavis hotel from 3 April to the 10 April, 2007. We spotted it on Tripadvisor and fell in love with it instantly.
It's in a tiny Spanish village, completely unspoilt and full of character and charm.

We stayed in the Alchemist room. All the rooms are individually themed. There is a tiny pool, but I doubt anyone would really use it. It's not the type of hotel you would go to if you want sit
by the pool all day. There is no room service or hotel bar but the restaurant is a real treat. We ate there once and I was most impressed. They pay great attention to detail and go that extra mile to make your meal that little bit special.

You definitely need to hire a car, otherwise you'd find staying at Benahavis too limited. Marbella, Puerto Beanus and Esponia
are within a 20 minute drive. The golf courses are magnificent
and you can play a round of golf for about £40 in some of the
mid-priced courses.

We stayed during Easter, unfortunately the weather was awful. It was dull and quite chillly. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others for a short break.

Just minutes away from the coast line, a small and terribly cute hotel in a mountain village of Benahavis. This hotel has interpreted the Andalucian history and put it into the hotel rooms. Never seen a small hotel with so much charme and elegance, yet attention to details.
Hotel staff go out of their way to help, recommend and assist in any way possible. We got stranded for our own fault, the staff stayed on the phone for several hours to sort out our problems of lost tickets, credit cards, keys etc
Food is incredible, with daily changing menu and personalized menus printed for every table. Overall quality is just one reason to come back.
I wish there were more small hotels with the professionalism of a five star chaine hotel.

We stayed in the Amanhavis for a week following reviews here. We were not disappointed. The whole setting is lovely, especially if you just want to get away from it all. The drive to it is very nice and it's hard to believe you're so close to places like Puerto Banus. The hotel itself is really special. We stayed in the Spice Traders room which was lovely. The room was perfectly clean and everything was cleaned and tidied each morning. We spent some time on the sun terrace which was lovely and very private as most guests must use the place as a base and don't tend to be there during the day. We ate at the restaurant twice and it was very good.

The only thing that wasn't so good was that we didn't really fit in being younger...I think most guests are in their 50s/60s and the owners are more used to that.

I'd definitely go back for a restful week.

Five days before our stay at the Amanhavis my wife broke her leg. We emailed the hotel and asked for guidance whether to cancel our stay because my wife had crutches and a wheelchair. They said there were a few steps but felt sure we would be OK. We are certainly glad we took their advice. This is a fabulous place to stay, we were there three days and enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel is located in the pretty little village of Benahavis about 6 kilometers inland from Marbella. There are only nine bedrooms of which we had the "Horsethiefs Hideaway" very quirky but very nice. The pool area is lovely, we had dinner by the pool twice, please try it the food is excellent. Everthing about this hotel is very good but what makes it stand out from the crowd is the superlative personal service with some lovely touches that just make all the difference. There was a personalised welcome written on a board in reception and even the daily restaurant menus welcomed us personally to dinner. Many many little thoughtful touches seperate this hotel from the ordinary. The owner Berkhart really knows his business and it shows everywhere. If you want chrome and crystal chandeliers don't go but if you like character and the warmest welcome with good food, book now.
A word of warning the hotel really can't handle wheel chairs but crutches were fine-there are steps and no lift.
