We booked a last minute trip to Atlanta and decided to stay at the Mandarin Oriental on Peachtree Street for 2 nights, right in the heart of Buckhead. What a great location-near restaurants and the famous Lenox Mall. Upon pulling up in the hotel courtyard, we were greeted warmly by the valet and doorman, I was impressed the minute we got our of our car. The door was opened for us and we were led to the front desk to check in. I can't say enough about the staff at this hotel. They were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We booked a standard room through American Express and were given an upgrade to a deluxe room. We were offered the use of the hotel car service-available on a first come first served basis. We were asked if we had dinner reservations and needed recommendations. Our room was on the 14th floor and was huge and beautiful! I have nothing negative to say about it. We had a large entry with dressing area and closet-lots of storage for clothes and suitcases. The bedroom was huge, with a desk area and chair and king bed. A very large window let in tons of light. Complimentary water bottles were left on the bedside tables and a fruit tray was our gift from the hotel management. Our Amex amenities included free wifi, but I think it was $9.95 per 24 hrs-not too bad. The bathroom was huge, with double sinks and lots of counter space. There was a large soaking tub and separate shower. After dinner we went to the bar for a drink. It was quiet and cosy-not too big. There are 2 TV's which were playing sports. The bartenders were really helpful in recommending drinks, etc...just a lovely time. Breakfast was really good. We had a continental breakfast included in our package ($30 credit). Everything we ordered was delicious-especially the omelet.
There was a piano player in the foyer during the evenings-soothing and relaxing. The public area was lovely with a beautiful fireplace and intimate sitting areas.
The best attribute this hotel has is it's staff and their level of service. Every time we encountered an employee, we were greeted by name. The door was held for us and we were asked about our plans for the day or where we were having dinner. The restaurant and bar staff-same! 5 star all the way!
We did have an issue the first night-upon coming back to our room after dinner and drinks, we smelled cigarette smoke coming into our room through the connecting door from the room next door. I called down to the front desk and reported this and was told there was indeed someone in that room. My husband is highly allergic to smoke and we were offered to move to another room. They couldn't have been nicer. The manager even called us the next morning, as my husband was pretty upset about this. We did end up and move to another room, which wasn't ideal at midnight. The entire hotel is non-smoking, and this person shouldn't have been smoking in his/her room. I hope the hotel management said something to them. This was the only negative experience we had during our stay, and it wasn't the hotel's fault.
We didn't check out the spa or gym, but I'm sure they're just as high quality as the rest of the hotel.
I would highly recommend the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta if you want a relaxing and elegant experience.
I'm sure all rooms are beautiful. We booked a standard room and were upgraded to a deluxe room...
