Spent the weekend at the Georgian Terrace, a hotel that I had wanted to stay at for some time. While it is a historic hotel with a beautiful facade and some attractive public spaces, some of the accommodations leave something to be desired.
We booked through Priceline and were given a Standard Room, which was quite cramped (see pictures from maw0512's review.) It was by far the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, smaller than a cruiseship cabin. As we were travelling with our son who needed a crib, I was hoping that they might give us a room with a bit more space, but it was not to be. To fit the crib in the room, we literally had to stash the ottoman in the closet and stick half of the crib in the closet.
Claustrophobic room aside, our stay was relatively pleasant. All of the staff that we encountered were professional and curteous. The valet parking is pricey, but convenient and fast. There is definitely some room for improvement when it comes to infrastructure: A friend staying in another room could never get his room's internet connection to work, despite numerous visits by the hotel's tech support people. Our room had a coffee machine provided, but it was on a table nowhere near an outlet. A bedside lamp had to be unplugged and the machine moved across the room to brew coffee. The antiquated HVAC system was pretty noisy and this, coupled with a mysterous late-night (2:30 a.m.) hallway vacuuming session disturbed our sleep. Some hallways could be better maintained, having witnessed a number of walls and doors which could have benefitted from a fresh coat of paint. The busy floral wallpaper in our bathroom was torn and peeling in places.
It seemed to be a high traffic weekend, with multiple wedding receptions scheduled during our stay. As a result, the hotel's already-insufficient two elevators were overtaxed, resulting in extremely long waits for the elevator.
In all, it was an alright stay and I'd say that I got what I paid for. That said, I don't think I will be back, even at the Priceline rate. Too many bumps in the experience, and many better options in Midtown to explore.
