Stayed for a night on a great Priceline rate ($74) while driving through Atlanta. There was a certain degree of chaos on check-in, the lobby bar overflowing with rabid LSU fans in town for a game against Tennessee the next day.
We were ushered to a somewhat oddly angled but spacious 2nd floor room with a view overlooking construction debris and scaffolding. The room was recently renovated, with a comfortable bed and fresh linens. Earthtones and wooden accents abound in a relaxed contemporary design.
The staff was pleasant, but not over-eager to please. Clearly they were quite busy dealing with the assembled throngs of football fans and were just trying to cope more than anything else. My pre-requested crib was not in the room upon check-in, but was delivered within 30 minutes. There was a 20 minute wait the next morning to get our valet parked car.
A downside to the central atrium design of the hotel is that if a particularly noisy group is spending time at the lobby bar, that noise easily travels up through the building seeping through the doors of the rooms and into the ears of guests who are not up partying. Consequently, It didn't really get quiet until around 1:30 a.m. after the bar closed and the fans wandered back to their rooms (or found a watering hole that stayed open later.)
Overall, it wasn't the most restful stay I've had, but the room furnishings and amenities offered were nice enough, and the architecture of the place, while not my style, was certainly impressive. The staff was helpful, the location is central, and close to popular Atlanta attractions. I'd recommend it, especially post-renovations, for someone needing to stay downtown.
In future, when traveling through Atlanta I will opt for a property in Buckhead or Midtown and hope to get a better night's sleep.
