I have been surprised at some of the recent negative reviews and like another reviewer stated it's best to do some research before you choose. The hotel was not the normal European style of a huge concrete block of identical rooms but designed in small circular two story sets dotted throughout the complex. The walk up to our Mountain View room was daunting on the first night but my husband managed to find a less steep route for my creaking limbs and it was so beautiful up there that it was worth the walk.
You cross over a little bridge to access one of three octagonal shaped rooms each out on their own little arm so that none of the walls touched those of your neighbours. The rooms had a charming, almost Swiss chalet like feel with lots of wood, including a lovely ceiling. As already stated they are not big, though adequate and cosy.
The vivid colours of bougainvillea splash over on to balconies and all around are scented pine trees interwoven with bright exotic flowers and the gardens are ablaze with every colour imaginable in hibiscus, roses, chrysanthemums and many more. The contrast of the wilderness of the mountain gardens and the order of the valley gardens gives pleasure at all times and is a great credit to the gardeners. The scents are wonderful and the sounds of the many birds and insects fills the air whilst the myriad of beautiful butterflies adds to the enjoyment, if you're lucky you may see a family of wild tortoise. Sitting up on the balcony is akin to enjoying your own private Shangri-la!
How anyone can criticise the food is beyond me but each to their own, we dined out several times with family staying in the area and none reached the levels of this hotel. The staff were the best of any hotel I've experienced from cleaners and maintenance staff upward all worked extremely hard, were neat and clean and never appeared miserable. Our cleaner was brilliant as were the many jolly waiting on staff we met.
Many compliments have been given about pools and the lovely peaceful and cool sitting areas and I second those. Anya, the First Choice rep was the best I've ever met, nothing was too much trouble and even the smallest enquiry was responded to in a thorough manner. We also met Cisem, the Turkish First Choice wedding planner whose efficiency and pleasant manner was second to none.
As we married whilst we were there the hotel treated us to some lovely extras. there was half a bottle of 'champagne' on arrival, breakfast in bed the day after we were married and the delivery of more champagne and a basket of fruit too. In addition we were treated to La Turquoise a la carte dinner which was set around the pool and was truly amazing, they even put extra flowers and petals on our table; be warned: go hungry as there is food in abundance!
We also had the hotel photographer take a selection of images before we set off for the ceremony and we purchased many of these and the complete disc for a fraction of the price you would pay in the UK. I would strongly recommend this photographer he takes lovely images in fabulous settings which are a lovely memento for anyone's holiday.
If there was a negative it was the fact that you couldn't really get far without transport but for a break 'far from the madding crowd' this hotel is perfection.
