“You can reserve a room, but that doesn't mean you'll get a room...”

Made reservations for a room on 4/28/06 for a room on 7/30/06.
Received confirmation for the room a couple days later.
(Make *sure* you ask for confirmation via mail.)

Arrived the afternoon of 7/30, only to find I did NOT have
a room. They had my reservation (and luckily I had *my* copy
of the confirmation) but...all the rooms were already filled.

I was compensated for the room, but that's not the point.
Had 'Mountain Meadows Inn Bed & Breakfast' (where Nisqually
Lodge finally found another room for me) not had a room,
I may have had to sleep in the car in the park. Vacancies
around there are few and far between during tourist season.

The final insult was they gave me the wrong directions on
how to get to the other hotel. They claimed it was closer
to Mt. Rainier, but in fact it was five miles further from
the park. (Not to mention the couple of hours lost that
could have been spent sightseeing.)

Advice? I would call them before your trip if you have
a reservation, and make sure they actually have a room for
you.

“Great place to stay at Mt. Rainier!”

This was a wonderfully comfortable and pleasant place to stay. It was very clean and well maintained, although some things we've come to enjoy were missing ... Limited TV, no high speed internet, no coffee pot or in room refrigerator or microwave. But this was more like staying in a National Park and made up for what it lacked by being amazingly quiet and peaceful. I did a load of wash in a very clean washing machine ... that means a lot. The breakfast was spartan but just having juice and coffee was fine. The managers were incredibly accommodating. To bring in our luggage we were able to park right at the door and brought things into the lobby easily. Like others, we had a great meal at the Copper Creek Inn. And the visit to Mt. Rainier was out of this world ... the Lodge is about a half hour from the first stop where you can see the magnificent mountain. We plan to go back and to stay at the Nisqually Lodge.

Situated on SR706 between the west entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad, this is a very nice place to stay. Rooms are spacious and even include a recliner. Very clean. Limited TV channels. No microwaves or refrigerators in the rooms but there is access to both in the lobby or upstairs hall. Huge fireplace in the lobby and there are extra desks and chairs positioned in the lobby and upstairs. Good water pressure in the shower although you have a choice of heat lamp or noisy vent, both of which are attached to the light switches. Only major problem with this hotel is getting luggage in and out. It's a long uphill walk from the parking lot and there are no elevators or carts. People at the front desk very accomodating. Breakfast: Muffins and beverages. Hotel also close to the Copper Creek Inn which has excellent food including the best wild blackberry pie and home-made bread.

We stayed at Nisqually Lodge for 2 nights in September. The room was large and spotless with two comfortable Queen size beds. The only amenity missing was an in room coffee maker which would have been useful at night since the nearest restaurant was closed. The lobby area was well furnished and pleasant to sit in on cool evenings. A breakfast of sorts is provided and this would be my only criticism. If a hotel is going to offer a breakfast they might as well do it properly. Pre-packed bagels, doughnuts and danish pastries were on offer (cream cheese but no butter). I do wonder whether Americans really eat these high fat, high calorie items at home. So if you are intending to stay for any length of time do budget for going out for breakfast. The Copper Creek restaurant about 3 miles towards the park is very good. Despite these minor niggles I would highly recommend this lodge.

“Wonderful”

I could not find any reviews on this place on TA but AAA and Mobil Travel Guide both gave it a good rating so with a little trepidation I booked a 2 night stay. We could not have been more pleased. The room was large, nicely decorated and CLEAN. We had one of the 2 rooms that have a balcony so that was a definite plus. True to its name this place has a "lodge" feel to it with a two story great room which seemed to be a nice gathering place for the guests who really didn't want to stay in their rooms.
The only down side might be for people with young children as there is not a lot of things for them to do that you might find at a chain motel. There are none of those in the area anyway. The lodge is about 6 miles from Mt Rainier. Most accomodations in the area are outside the park. Mt Rainier was wonderful and if we are ever fortunate enough to visit there again we hope Nisqually Lodge is still there.
