I have just came back from the Hotel Zyriab in Sierra Nevada. I have been to Sierra nevada a number of times already and have an experience with another *** hotel in Pradollano and as I see it, putting together the positives of those two hotels, one perfect would be created. The hotel is just at the bottom of the main square of Pradollano and a few steps from both the coach parking and the bottom stations of gondolas. It is set into steep hill which means that the hall you enter is the top of the hotel and the majority of the rooms are placed under this hall in minus floors. I was staying in a double room in minus 4 and we had a partial view of the valley. Our room was very small and not very appealing, wiht green furniture, generally my impression was that the rooms and the bathrooms would deserve remodelling. However, other people from our group had nicer rooms, with litgh furniture and light blue and yellow details. Those seemed to have more space and were giving much nicer impression. There are also rooms in sort of historizing style...well, somebody may perceive it as luxury, for somebody else including me it is.....weird. Nevertheless, that is in fact not that important, the improtant thing is, the rooms were clean (although the mold was trying to find its way to the bathroom) and there were very nice and well pressed sheets on the beds. Our room was not very well isolated from the other rooms - when the neighbours decidd to have a shower, we had to raize our voices to hear what the other is saying. Needless to say that this and the sounds form the floor woke one up and that we could hear the neighbour when they got into their morning "exercise". BUT; generally, the hotel is a VERY quiet place and we didnt hear anybody partying until the very morning like in the other hotel. The lobby, the bar and the dining room are very impressive and give lovely views of the valley. The food was superb, very wide range, the chef preparing pancakes in the morning and steaks in the evening on site. WHat is also amazing about this hotel are changing rooms in -3, where you may have a shower after skiing. There are separate changing rooms for men and for women, each including several cabines with shower, toilets with bidet, hair dryers, you are provided with a towel and a floor mat. there is sopa as well as hair dryer on site and your backage is guarded in locked storage. This I found absolutely excellent. WHat is the down side of this hotel (apart from the weird style of the bedrooms and the fact that the furniture and the bathrooms are outdated and wornout - which however is my personal impression and person with other estetical criteria may find the bedroom appealing) is the behaviour of the staff. All in all it seemed to me like if the all recently passed some training "How to be unfriendly and superficial to the guests so they woulf feel unwelcomed as much as possible". It started at the front desk where the present shift behaved like if some group which arrived via agency was some very unwelcome horde. Shokingly, they insited on copying the passports, getting credit card numbers and they wanted two signatures...copying IDs is clearly against law and this is such an amount of information that somebody would be able to buy himself anything online, book tickets and even get a credit in a bank. When not willing providing them with credit card information, the deposit for consumption and "imagine if something got broken in the rooms" was 50 EUR per double room and stay of 2 nights. I had stayed in so many hotels in my life and they never wanted THAT much information, not mentioning that we were travelling with a travel agency not as some anonymous individuals. The staff in the dining room also had kind of stiff faces, and not just me but many others were kept waiting for more than 10 minutes before they were served a simple drink. The same at the front desk with any quiery. However this is just staff - the location and the food as well as the parking, the ski lockers, the vestuarios - all in all it is a great place.
