“Gorgeous and First Class in every respect”

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa

As a frequent traveller, I'm not one to gush over hotels, but this one is an exception. The property is first-class and gorgeous in every respect. Beautiful property and rooms, attentive and friendly staff, gorgeous grounds and beach. Yes, it's pricey. The only drawback is it is relatively secluded... other than the other resorts right next door, there is really nothing else around so you end up spending all of your time at the resort. If you are looking at an all-inclusive, relaxing place, you will be very happy here. This would be an outstanding honeymoon spot.

My husband and I went here during our honeymoon in April of 2007. It is a beautiful resort with plenty to keep you busy but lots of little spots for privacy and romance. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet but also got room service several mornings and loved that. We sat on or patio and watched the birds fly and the sun rise. Wonderful. Loved that there was a kid pool and adult pool. We were there during spring break so you can imagine there were lots of little ones! But the adult pool is quiet and absolutely no children allowed. In fact my husband and I witnessed a cocktail waitress politely but firmly ask a young teen to leave. The spa was to die for!! My husband and I agreed that we would go back for the spa alone.

“great time, excellent facilities”

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa

After staying at the GWR for the last 10 days and having read some of the negative reviews, the experience has made me lose my faith in sites such as tripadvisor.com because the negative reviewers, who are likely as qualified to review a nice hotel as they are to practice nuclear physics, may unfortunately put some people off of staying at this great hotel, and that would be a shame. These small minded negative reviewers would likely find fault with heaven, if they get there. I travelled with the family and 3 older kids - 18, 14, 10 and this beautiful hotel is excellent in every way and was a great experience for all. Service - PERFECT. Every encounter with every staff member for 10 days was fine, from the initial meet and greet to the check out - the staff is happy, helpful and pleasant to be around. Rooms - We had 2 adjacent rooms and had absolutely no complaints - roomy, clean, great views. Pool area - pools are the best I have seen anywhere in the world for kids and if you go there with no kids there is a completely separate, large pool section for adults. Also the areas are very well maintained. It was very crowded but kept clean as reasonably possible. Service for drinks and food was fine each day considering the crowd. There was the early rush to get towels (which they had enough of), and the best seating, but no large family oriented hotel anywhere has solved that problem. Beach - nice and large, by Maui standards, lots of activities for all. Crowd - light on from the east coast so attitudes were few and far between, some major celebs, many many kids, overall pleasant. Restaurants - only had breakfast (good) at the hotel on some days since there are over 300 eating establishments in Maui to try and we like to get out. Spa - none better. General cost - this is an expensive establishment and that includes everything. Some prices are way over the top and if you go there expecting average to high prices you will be disappointed. High and very high is what you will get so bargain hunters beware. (You can mitigate some costs simply by shopping for drinks/snacks/booze at the local market.) If you have experienced large fine hotels in the past and if that type of establishment is your cup of tea, and if you are not on a budget and do not get offended by high prices then I would recommend you stay at the GWR if you go to Maui. You will not be disappointed.

Our extended family of 10 stayed at this resort after Christmas and through New Years. We had a great time. We loved the pools and enjoyed the spa. The hotel is very big and spread out. Unfortunately we were given rooms in the very back rear corner of the resort. It took us about 10 to 15 min. to get to the pool each day with the kids and their stuff. I would recommend getting a room in the Lagoon wing of the hotel. This is the closest to the pools. Our rooms were good size and were very clean. However, they did show some aging like peeling walllpaper, etc. The maids did a great job each day and turned down our rooms each night. The food was great by the pool. We really enjoyed the hamburgers. However, they were expensive at about $18. We had the breakfast buffet each morning because with 10 people it was difficult finding a table and ordering at Cafe Kula. If I was going to Maui again with kids, I would definately choose this hotel. If you are going without kids, I would stay at the Kei Lani down the way. The Four Seasons was way to "Hollywood" and the Marriott was not as nice for the price.

“Grand is Expensive and worth it”

Just finished 9 day stay, our third stay in 7 months. I just find the deluxe ocean view and the large 640 sq ft. room to the most delicious vacation I have ever had.

The fitness center and spa is rated one of the 10 best in the world, and you must check it out to understand how fabulous the Grand is. Expensive, YES! Worth it, yes.

Our twice a day maid service kept everything clean and fresh, and after sleeping late most mornings, we hardly spent time in the room.

The large adult pool (Habiscus) is extremely quiet, and we made new friends every day sitting in the jacussi or around the pool. With no kids in sight, everybody was more relaxed and friendly. The kids have their own water slide pool, and the beach is right at the edge of the pools.

Most of the people I talked to had been to the Grand before, and were making plans for their next visit.

Expensive and worth it.
