Here's a portion of the letter sent to Days Inn:
We have a number of complaints about one of your facilities in Corpus Christi, Texas:
1. The room was terribly run down and in desperate need of updating (painting, repairs, etc.); 2. The outside door security latches were loose and didn't work well; 3. The carpet was stained and felt nasty; 4. The bottom of the bathtub was stained to the point of being almost black; 5. The blanket on the bed was stained; 6. The towel bar in the bath area was almost falling off the wall; 7. We were charged a nightly fee to use the safe, which we did not ask for and did not use; 8. Our room entry card was somehow demagnetized while we were gone, and we had to walk down to the office late at night to have it re-magnetized; 9. Someone had urinated in the elevator Saturday night; 10. The security gate was never closed, allowing ANYONE access to the facilities; 11. The security fence around the property was in disrepair, and we saw three juveniles enter the parking lot through the fence, who then proceeded to try to hide from us; and 12. We placed a "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door when we left the room Saturday morning, and when we returned Saturday night, the sign was removed, and the room had been entered and cleaned. What about "Do Not Disturb" do they not understand?
Those were our more MINOR complaints. The biggest problem was that when we went to take a shower this morning, the shower knob didn't work, so it was impossible to bathe. We didn't have time to call the front desk, because we were trying to leave town as soon as possible. When we went to check out, we stated that we shouldn't have to pay for more than one night's stay, inasmuch as we were unable to use the bath/shower. We were not given any sympathy whatsoever and were told they could do no more than give us a 10% discount, which was totally unacceptable to us.
Then the desk clerk gave us an 800 number to call, and when we called it, it was for Day's Inn RESERVATIONS!
