My wife and I first visited Arnold two years ago in January and we are returning in February. A most enjoyable visit. Arnold is a talker but, you know what? Listen and you may learn something about this locality. That is the point of traveling. And at Casita Chamisa you are literally sitting on history that dates back thousands of years. The home itself was built by the author of a very famous book made into a classic movie. The adobe main house is gorgeous. I love the banquettes and the inner courtyard. And the art work is delightful and true to the southwest heritage of Pueblo Indian and Hispanic cultures. Plus, Arnold is a great cook. His special sourdough is even older than he is. It is a real place in a unique community. Ranchos de Albuquerque was granted water rights from the nearby Rio Grande by the Spanish. The new U.S. government continues to honor those rights. There is an intricate system of canals and dykes. Walk through the area and see the ranchos containing fine horses, peacocks, llamas, you name it! In fact, the Smithsonian magazine last summer did an article on this community, which is home to Tony Hillerman, the writer.
