Absolutely enjoyable! How much better to describe our weekend away at A Mountain Valley Home with Lynn, Paul and Kyle? I wasn’t going to bother with writing our review, since it will just be more of the same raves and compliments that they have already received, but I might as well put my 2 cents online along with the rest of the 5 star ratings.
My husband and I visited Estes Park this past weekend for the Scottish Festival. Originally, we were headed to Scotland for our wedding anniversary, however, since carpet and tile were also wanted, I settled for the Scottish Festival in Estes Park and how happy I am that we did! We could not have asked for a more pleasant and welcoming group of people to spend the weekend with (and we have been to several B&B’s – this one is the tops). Not to mention the fun & excitment it was seeing fellows walk around in kilts!!
Not only did Lynn guide us through the what and hows of the Festival, she invited us to join her group for a picnic before one of the Tattoos (and no, this had nothing to do with ink and needles!). We were the new comers, but never did we feel like it. We were welcomed and included in all of the fun activities.
I might as well start at the beginning of our stay; when we arrived Paul warmly welcomed us, told us that breakfast would be at 8:30am (inquiring of allergies, etc. and checking if that time was good for us, which it was) and that coffee would be ready at 7:30am. He then graciously walked us around the home, showing us how things worked (Jacuzzi spa, Select Comfort Bed, fans, fireplace, heaters, windows, lights, etc.), where the guest kitchen and drinks were located, and even went over a map of the area since we were not familiar with Estes Park. We asked about local restaurants and he was so willing to show us the many menus they had on hand and gave his recommendations. He did suggest making reservations for wherever we decided to go, since this weekend was going to be a crowded one.
Paul indicated that they would be happy to have a wine tasting upon request. Unfortunately we were did not get to enjoy their new tasting room (which is absolutely beautifully decorated), as we all (all of the guests) were so caught up in the Scottish Festival activities and events.
We took one of Paul’s recommendations and went to the Tavern, mostly due to them having live music. We were glad we made reservations because the place was indeed full to the brim. (The meal was excellent; I had the salmon and my husband had their pasta special).
The breakfasts were superb. We had fresh fruit (Colorado peaches, blackberries, raspberries, almonds, with a sweet dollop of heavenly cream) and fruit filled crapes with a side of bacon; French Toast topped with a maple pecan topping and sausage, and one of our very favorites was one of Paul’s creations (egg filled tomato on top of a bed of sausage/beef mixture) not sure what it was called, but let’s say my husband is still asking me if I could try to re-create it! Oh, I just have to mention this; Paul looks just like Johnny Carson (at least according to my hubby)! Every morning he would say, “Wasn’t breakfast with Johnny nice?” You’ll have to go see for yourselves and let us know if you think he looks like Johnny’s twin!
At breakfast we were able to talk and laugh with the other guests as we sat on the back veranda and enjoyed the hummingbirds and elk grazing in the yard. One morning there was a "six pointer" that was taking a sip of the front pond.... we all rushed to the front and snapped photos of this magnificent animal meandering along through the MVH front yard.
We stayed in the Bear’s Den room, which we both just loved. It is accessible with it’s own private outside stairway so we felt like we could come and go as late or early as we pleased. The room was decorated so perfectly with special little touches that just make all the difference. We loved the stuffed bears that top the bed – they make perfect mascots! There were candles, lighters, wine opener, extra blankets, and hangers, everything you could ask for.
There was a tv in our room, but we didn’t get to watch too much, although my husband did turn it on to catch sport scores and the weather. We were rather surprised that the tv had such good reception and not just the normal channels, it was cable. We did attempt to watch one of the many movies that they have available, but we ended up falling asleep.
I am truly sorry to have to tell you they are completely booked for next year’s Scottish Festival, but perhaps you can visit another time; I am confident you will have a most pleasant visit.
