A stopping point before going over Trail Ridge Road. Unfortunately snow blocked the road even early in October. Paid extra for a cabin with a log fire which was worth the extra on a cold night. Dinner in the steakhouse was reasonable whilst not outstanding. Reasonable breakfast. Clean rooms.

On the positive side, I was VERY impressed with the remodeling done on the rooms--they used what looked like aspen wood on two walls, plus had the same kind of cabin wood furniture and decor. I slept on comfy maroon sheets instead of the standard white. Very delightful. You could hear the rush of the river at all times from the balcony or outside. I felt safe and secure.

On the "NEEDS IMPROVEMENT" side, the toilet handle had to be held down the entire flush in order to complete it; the channel changer didn't work as far as changing channels; NO decaffienated coffee packs even though I requested them; my husband kept trying to call me and never could seem to get through; and heat came from the "steam" heater constantly, and I DIDN'T NEED HEAT--it was JULY! So the room was too warm constantly, EVEN with the fan on on COOL nights.

On the "NEGATIVE" side, no refrigerator; no microwave, and that seemed very chincy considering the price.

Bottom line: I'd stay there again if I "had" to---but I am trying other motels in the meantime.

We stayed at Nicky's the night of 9/17/04. The motel has been remodeled under new management and is very clean and comfortable.
We have eaten at Nicky's steakhouse next door to the lodge for years and have always found the food to be very good and reasonably priced.
