Jan. 20, 2008. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. I have stayed in other Holiday Inns and this one was just all around better. Friendly, helpful staff at the front desk, restaurant, and housekeeping. A few little things that were extra nice: a pillow menu with 4 different types of pillows; a heat lamp in the bathroom; a higher shower head with 3 different settings. Being 5'9" and my husband is 6'3", the extra height made for a very comfortable shower.

We ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant, LongZ which was another pleasant surprise. We each had potato sausage soup which was excellent and 1/2 lb. cheese burgers with fries dinner. If you are traveling with someone, I suggest sharing one burger platter along with soups or salads. The portions were very generous and the food quality was suprisingly very good. The cheeseburger platter was only $8.25 and the soup $4.

Other features: exterior security doors that require a room key, a well-maintained swimming pool, billard table, foosball table, and vending machines. Plus we had a very nice view of the mountains from our room. Since we stayed off season, we really felt this hotel was a great deal; however, if I was in Estes Park in the spring or summer, I would definitely stay at this hotel.

I was very scared of this hotel by the reviews I have read. Believe me, this was one great place to stay! The room was very clean. The personnel was top notch. The breakfast buffet is the best in town! The prices were very competitive. I truly enjoyed my stay! Take time to find the wild elk roaming the streets...

“Not recommended”

We did not have a great experience here, but it was entirely due to the staff and not the hotel itself. The rooms are clean and so is the hotel itself. It's located close to downtown, maybe a 15 minute walk to the main part of town. The layout of the hotel is awkward, and finding our room was difficult. We were at the back of the hotel.
The front desk staff was rude and that was the main problem with the hotel. At check in, the woman was alternately rude and nice. We thought it was very strange. At check out, I asked nicely about the difference in the rate I was being charged and the rate I booked at. I was just trying to determine if it was a mistake or a fee they didn't itemize. I was floored that the same woman became immediately defensive and rude. All I could get from her is "that's the rate you signed in at." I take responsibility for signing in at the higher rate since I didn't have my confirmation at check in, but the way she handled it was horrible.

Decent and reasonably clean. I did not like needing to drive to a rear entrance to access the elevator after receiving my key. The rear entrance smelled bad. Slightly out-of-the-way in relation to the restuarants and shops in Estes Park. Ample parking. Check-In OK. Bedding and mattress OK. Bathroom clean and in good working order. I used points...so this was a free night---but I'd look elsewhere if I was paying cash.

“The Natives are rude!!!!”

The Holiday Inn is what it is. Fairly clean. Nice Pool. Good for families.

We went for the July 4th fireworks with our three kids ages 6-2 years old. Two different people at the front desk told us to leave the hotel and walk a block or two to get a "great view" of the fireworks. They didn't bother to tell us that the natives of Estes Park drive to the Holiday Inn parking lot to watch the display. In fact, the Holiday Inn had roped off a section specifically to watch the display. The only reason we found out about this was I had to go to the car for supplies. We watched a great display from the parking lot where some older couples (50-60 years) told us to move our Surburban which our kids were watching the display from. When the display ended, over half the parking lot dispersed to their homes in their cars, including the rude older couple who couldn't mover their lawn chairs 5 feet to view the fireworks.

Later, we found this to be the expected attitude of the Estes Park natives toward tourists. We couldn't even coax an apology from the manager at Bob & Tony's (not positive of the name) when one of their employees ran over our 2 year old daughter with a trash can. In fact, the pizza manager wouldn't even get up out of a counch to discuss this with us.

Estes Park is very beautiful and the RMNP is awesome. Unfortunately, the natives are a bunch of Liberal, Granola, 60's wantabees who hate tourists, but need them so they can live in Estes Park.
