I booked a two night stay at Holiday Inn Estes Park thru Travelocity two months in advance and paid for it up front with a credit card. I chose this hotel because they offered a health club for my wife, and a game room for my children. Upon check-in, I used a debit card which I found out the next day, was charged $235.00 for incidentals without my authorization. When I called to speak with the manager, I was informed that she was unavailable and was offered no other option other than to wait for her to call me. She never did. I called Travelocity and they were unable to contact Brenda, the manager as well. In the mean time, I checked my credit card statement only to find that the hotel room that I had already paid for through Travelocity, was once again charged to my credit card by Holiday Inn. I immediately went to the front desk demanding answers. Brenda explained to me that Travelocity's credit card was declined for payment, and that it was Holiday Inn's policy to charge me for the discrepancy. Again, I never authorized these charges and until I inquired, Holiday Inn did not seem interested in alerting me to this fact. Brenda offered a half hearted apology and breakfast which I declined.
I called Holiday Inn's headquarters and was involved in a fifteen minute argument with the customer service representative which amounted to nothing other than blame passing on Holiday Inn's behalf. I then requested a print out of charge activity on both my credit card and debit card and was denied. I once again requested this information and was told that the manager would bring it to my room. Finally, after a full day of failed attempts to find answers the acting manager came to my room and told me that he could not provide me with MY charge activity. I closed my door in his face and he returned with two security guards and a voucher to the nastiest flee bag motel in town and told me that my family had to leave and that Holiday Inn would pay for my accommodations at a non Holiday Inn motor inn. I argued that I had done nothing wrong, but agreed to leave. Five minutes later, two police officers arrived to assist me, my wife, and my two young children with my departure. Through all of this, I was never a bit threatening and could not understand why I was being treated this way though I suspect Holiday Inn did not want me to convey my thoughts to other resort guests, hence the free voucher to another hotel for the night. Travelocity comped my stay as they should have, but Holiday Inn did nothing to help.
I think that the moral of this story is: Do not argue with Holiday Inn management especially when the problem is potentially embarrassing to them......the'll kick you out and ruin your family vacation. The police presence very much frightened my two children!
