I’m a bit late writing this review, but my husband and I stayed here July 1st- 6th 2012 for our honeymoon. We live about an hour away and needed to stay somewhere close since we have a toddler- but also somewhere nice for the occasion.
I give this resort an almost perfect review for a few reasons. The resort itself is gorgeous and massive- definitely a perfect review in my opinion!
I had read reviews before coming that the walk is too far from the parking lot to the resort and rooms. We did not have a problem with this – even considering how hot it was outside and that it is an uphill walk back to the resort, we didn’t even break a sweat. It is a good walk and if I was not wearing the right shoes I would have my husband drop me off by the door. There are also shuttles (aside from the valet) that are free and the drivers were always very friendly and willing to help. When we left this was nice because he took our bags, loaded them into the golf cart and also unloaded them into our car- and also was very friendly.
I wish I could remember the woman’s name (all I remember is that she had an accent) that we checked in with the night of the 1st- she was super friendly and helpful. She gave us a free room upgrade and internet since it was our honeymoon. The man that took our bags to our room was very nice as well.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. We stayed on the side of the ballrooms/conference centers and didn’t have any problems with it being loud like some reviews I had read. There were times it did seem noisy out in the hall, but nothing that you wouldn’t experience at any other hotel. Never anything to the point of being obnoxious and disturbing our sleep. It was actually very relaxing out on our balcony it was so quiet and peaceful the whole stay.
Another review I had seen was that the blankets on the beds are too hot for summer. I get hot very easily but never had a problem with this- the A/C can be turned down to 65 degrees so I guess that’s why we never were hot! The room was very clean and the bed (pillows and blankets) was very comfortable. The room had a mini fridge (no mini bar) that worked really well. Complimentary bottled water, which is a nice perk since some places charge you like crazy! It had a little coffee pot that made single serve cups of coffee with disposable filter holders/filters/coffee bags. They stock you daily with little coffee mate creamers/ sweeteners/ stirs/cups etc. I love coffee and was a little hesitant to try it but it was not bad. I got Starbucks each morning, though, and they give you refills for less than a dollar. The only complaint there was that one of the girls was not the nicest person.
We didn't use it but they had a laundry room for guests- complimentary- which I bet is great for families with babies or even if there for a business trip.
The pool area of course is massive and pretty. We never ate once at the resort, not even room service or to get our complimentary drinks at the lobby bar at check-in. I have heard they have great food though just a bit expensive. We left the resort when we would go eat- there are so many restaurant options very close to the resort so it was never a problem.
I don’t want to be one that gets mad over something small and makes the over all review horrible out of spite. We did have a couple experiences that were a slight disappointment after a perfect stay here. Upon check-out they told us we had a charge to our room for a $78 bottle of wine from their restaurant “Cibolo Moon”. We let them know that we never ordered anything from anywhere in the resort. They were really nice about it , did not charge us and showed us the receipt that was clearly not my husband’s signature. The lady said they made a file of it and would look into it. As we were driving home I was thinking about it more and since we never talked to the manager, I decided to call and give a compliment as well as a suggestion. I let the supervisor I spoke with know that we appreciated the fact they were so professional, nice and willing to resolve it quickly. I also suggested that they find some sort of system to make sure they have the right person with the room they are charging. It’s a huge resort so I understand there will be accidents from time to time but what didn’t settle with me is that the person signed our name to our room number. We could not figure out how it would have happened since we didn’t leave anything or lose anything with our names and room number. Also, I felt that they should have been checking an ID anyway since it was alcohol they were serving. Maybe they just looked at the person’s birth date and not their picture and name. I don’t know. I just felt that was weird and maybe it was an employee that got our info or something.
The two other disappointments I had: When I first called and spoke with the supervisor he was so nice and concerned and took my email address and said that if I didn’t hear from him the next day after he looked into it, to call him back. I didn’t originally call him to get him to do something- just for my compliment/suggestion- but since he said that I was curious to see what he found out on how it happened. So I called back the next day when I hadn’t heard from him and asked to speak with him. The lady at the front desk that answered would not put me through with the manager and said she would help me with what I needed so I let her know the situation and she told me that they wouldn’t have any information on file anymore and their receipts are filed electronically off site. I told her I understood, I just wanted to follow up with the supervisor like he had mentioned the day before. After her being rude about it she finally put me through. The supervisor (a different one from the day before) was very nice of course and let me know that it went under investigation but wouldn’t be able to give me any information like they had offered before incase it was an employee or what not. I totally understand that part of it. What was a little disappointing was the customer service from the front desk lady. Also the fact that my parents (who had paid for it) told us afterward that they said while making the reservation there would be a bottle of wine/champagne and a fruit basket for us upon arrival. I don’t know if there was a mix-up and this is where the room charge was from but those items were never given to us. Really it was not a big problem. My review is mostly so others will be aware and make sure to double check their bill upon check-out.
The stay here really was awesome and relaxing. Like I said before, I know it’s impossible to be perfect-even for resorts. The upgrade they gave us in the beginning, the friendliness of most of the staff and the beautiful resort itself definitely made up for the minor disappointments we had. I would however only recommend this place to those who can afford to spend money on traveling often. Especially if you already live in Texas and are not always able to take trips- unless you were in a situation like us and have to stay near home or stay there for business reasons- I would suggest using the money that you would spend here and go somewhere like an all-inclusive resort or really just somewhere else in the U.S.
