You and everyone else are coming to Luray to see the caverns, not the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum. After wandering through the amazing caverns, you will be tempted to skip the adjacent museum, because, after all, how interesting could a museum about Cars and Carriages be? I promise you that you will not regret it if you invest the 20 minutes necessary to see this quaint, well-curated collection of classic and historic modes of transportation. And it is free with your cavern ticket, so you have nothing to lose.
I have no interest in cars, modern or historic, and were it not for the fact that the fudge shoppe is located at the entrance to the museum, I would not have considered going in. But my desire for fudge and appreciation of a free ticket got the better of me. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The cars and carriages are spotlessly maintained and a fascinating window into aspects of the past unappreciated today.
The mannequins distracted somewhat from the seriousness of the museums, and this would not be worth a stand-alone ticket price for anyone but seriously car aficionados, but overall it was a lovely experience, well-worth the time invested.
