“Big Disappointment -- not on the beach”

We were booked in a hotel room that had ceiling tiles and fluorescent fixtures like a remodeled conference room. Ceiling tiles had water stains. I am not sure what standards are used to get 3 stars.

Then guest parking was moved to the beach parking lot which was across a busy road with very little street lighting-- not safe to cross at nite. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. The continental breakfast was not deluxe. The website fails to mention that the hotel is going to remodeled--therefore the lobby, halls, and rooms have a shabby feel to it.

I would never recommend this hotel at the rates they charged.

We stayed at the hotel as part of the Uk based Virgin Holidays fly-drive option. On our two week stay in wonderfull New England and staying at eight hotels in total, this hotel was really a let down.Poor room, which was tiny, and i mean tiny and worst of all there was green mould on the ceiling above the window. We stayed at the hotel in early October this year 07.Staff were helpful, but the hotel left a lot to be desired,a pity as all the other hotels on our trip were first class, especially The Lenox in Boston.

“So Disappointed”

I had booked a room for 2 nights at the end of August via the Hotel Website on which they offered an end of summer special for 139/night. The day before I departed, they phoned to say that they had plumbing issues and couldn't offer me the room I had booked. As a consolation, they offered me a room at their sister location, the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown. Now mind you, this place is fine in/ of itself especially if you're a business traveler, but it was not the beachfront location that I had hoped for, from the Inn at Newport Beach. It was more of an industrial type neighborhood and after I took a look at where I was supposed to be staying, I gave up my room all together. I would have gladly taken the room at the comfort suites next door but it wasn't offered to me and I didn't know that it was there. They must either they have a bait/switch thing operating when they overbook their rooms or use these rate specials as a means of filling up the sister property. Needless to say, I was very disappointed -so beware. And BTW, the beach to go to is Gooseberry (or Goosebury) Point especially if you have kids. It is one of the prettiest domestic beaches that I've seen. They filmed some of the movie "Evening" there. Hermit crabs galore and still waters. Will post photos.

I booked a room online because the website was offering an end of summer special for $129/night. Shortly after booking I received a voicemail from the hotel regarding my credit card. I called back thinking I must have mistyped the numbers and gave the credit card info again. I was told I was all set. When I arrived, there was no room available and apparently I should have gotten a phone call to let me know. I was offered a room behind the Inn at the Comfort Inn for the same rate or at a sister hotel in a neighboring town that wasn't on the ocean. I was so disappointed that I drove 3.5 hours for a stay at the Comfort Inn. However it turned out to be a great room considering the low opinion I previously had of the place. As for the Inn at Newport Beach, the front desk was not sincere in the apology. The clerk called the supervisor to confirm my reservation at the Comfort Inn was all set. The supervisor did not have the decency to come out and speak to me in person but rather dictated instructions over the phone to her staff. I was truly disappointed and there was certainly a lack of communication. I would never book a room there again. Especially since after moving to the other hotel the Inn had a vacancy sign. I guess the one night I wanted to spend there wasn't worth it to them. Perhaps if I had booked a longer stay I would have been welcome.

“Stay Away”

Inn at Newport Beach

3 Sep 2007

The Inn at Newport Beach is a FRAUD: 1) The hotel litarally smells of mold 2) The polluted beach stinks of raw sewerage. (FYI: It is not "Newport Beach" but actually "Easton's Beach," also known as "First Beach," a stretch of ocean that has been polluted for years as many articles posted on the internet attest.) 3) The general manager has his office at another hotel. 4) The reservation staff LIE about the polluted beach. 5) The photographs of the "Inn" seen at their website and Guide to Historic Hotels of America are either a) photoshopped to portray sand dunes and beach chairs, or b) decades old photos showing a golden sand beach that is actually oily crud! STAY AWAY!
