I wish I had read these reviews before I booked this hotel! The inn is not on the beach...it is accross the street. We booked a deluxe room, the room was so small and narrow with just a double bed. We were traveling with our one- year-old son and there was not even a bathtub in this "deluxe" room. In the middle of the night, the heat start making horrible noises and woke up our son. When we tried to speak with someone the next morning, the receptionist was very rude. The only person there to speak with was the head of housekeeping, who really did not care about what happened and said there was nothing she could do. I tried calling several times the next week and I would keep getting a recording or would be put on hold for several minutes at a time. So please do not waste your time and DON"T GO!!

We chose the Inn based on internet photos and proximity to the beach. Therefore, I was disappointed that the hotel was not as it is presented. HOWEVER, we ended up having a pleasant stay. First of all, the continental (free) breakfast had many choices (bagels, muffins, flavored coffee, etc) which pleased us and the kids. We had a 2 bedroom "suite" (really two rooms) with a connecting bath which works well for familes. Even though you are on a fairly busy street traffic-wise, we felt somewhat "away from it all" probably in part to being able to look at the ocean . I am happy to hear that the hotel is under renovation -- it has much potential.

“Not as bad as all the reviews said”

Inn at Newport Beach

29 Oct 2007

Stayed here 10/12/-10/14. Was very nervous based on all the bad reviews but it was too late to cancel our reservation. Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Yes, it is an older facility that can use a facelift (which apparently it is getting according to the signs in the lobby. They will be closed from November 2007 thru April 2008 for a complete inside renovation.) It was clean, our room had great ocean views, and a jacuzzi tub (which worked!). The continental breakfast was fine. The food was restocked continuously. We had no problems at all. The only odd thing we noticed was a lack of staff. The staff that was available all had name tags or uniforms that said Holiday Inn Express. They were very pleasant and helpful. Would stay here again.

“Big Disappointment -- not on the beach”

We were booked in a hotel room that had ceiling tiles and fluorescent fixtures like a remodeled conference room. Ceiling tiles had water stains. I am not sure what standards are used to get 3 stars.

Then guest parking was moved to the beach parking lot which was across a busy road with very little street lighting-- not safe to cross at nite. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. The continental breakfast was not deluxe. The website fails to mention that the hotel is going to remodeled--therefore the lobby, halls, and rooms have a shabby feel to it.

I would never recommend this hotel at the rates they charged.

We stayed at the hotel as part of the Uk based Virgin Holidays fly-drive option. On our two week stay in wonderfull New England and staying at eight hotels in total, this hotel was really a let down.Poor room, which was tiny, and i mean tiny and worst of all there was green mould on the ceiling above the window. We stayed at the hotel in early October this year 07.Staff were helpful, but the hotel left a lot to be desired,a pity as all the other hotels on our trip were first class, especially The Lenox in Boston.
