I have stayed at the Fair Street Guest House twice. Once in March of 2003 (or was it 2004?) when the current owners had just taken over, and once in July of 2006. This property is probably one of the best values in Newport. It’s not the fanciest B&B you’ll find in Newport, and its not the most extravagant, but it’s up there on the list of most affordable. The location (on a side street back behind the Red Parrot) can’t be beat. You’ll be within walking distance of everything.
Parking in Newport is horrendous, so the location is key, and Fair Street Guest House provides off street parking to its guests.
The rooms are clean, and well kept, although some of the furniture is a little worn (but hey, it is a historical B&B – that’s to be expected I suppose!) The owners, Denise (and I forget her husband’s name!) are continuously updating the property. The room/suite we had last time was sort of “under construction”, but I imagine they’ve finished it now.
Rooms in Newport tend to start at $250/night, and can go upwards of $500+, so to find something in a good location under $200 is rare.
In general this is a great B&B for the price. If you want 5 star luxury and to be pampered, this isn’t it. If, however, you’re looking for a comfortable place to lay your head, a great location at a great price, this is it. A good breakfast is included to top it all off!
