The Spiced Pear is located in the Chanler at Cliff Walk, which is a beautiful old mansion hotel in Newport. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we felt welcomed, with a lively crowd and a roaring fireplace. Perfect for December. We were shown our table, which had a view of the kitchen, which we both like. The food was extraordinary, from the scallop (and I think mango) amuse bouche, to the guinea hen with grits, candied baby brussels sprouts and carrots, and duck confit, and finally, to the lovely array of gelati at the end of the evening. The service was excellent. I was a little disappointed that, other than appetizers, there weren't any vegetarian options, since I find in restaurants like this, the chef usually has imaginative choices for those of us who don't eat meat regularly or at all. It is very pricey, but for a special occasion or romantic meal, then I think it's worth it.
