My husband and I visited Newport last October. The Admiral Farragut Inn, Cleveland house, Clarkeston, Elms and Wynstone are all run by the same staff. The first three are located on the same street. I have to admit, I was a bit leary about our accommodation choice...at first. Upon checking in (check in is at The Cleveland House for all five inns) we were not acknowledged and had to seek out help to be shown to our room. Things did improve. The innkeeper allowed us to look at a few vacant rooms and for a small extra added expense to our original room quote we upgraded to a better room. The room we booked was on the third floor and very small. We ended up with one of the nicest rooms in the inn and spent our last night at The Elms (I'm writing a seperate review for this inn). There was a comfy king size bed, television, beautiful antique vanity and a non-working fireplace. The bathroom has a bit small, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover copper pipes disquised as a towel rack actually heated up when the hot water was turned on creating a ingenious towel warmer. We also discovered a whimsical hand painted tree inside the closet.
There was a full breakfast served each morning. Very delicious things to choose from and you can have any combination of your choice everyday. Breakfast was served in The Clarkeston which was across the street from our inn. They tend to serve breakfast at the inn with the most guests. They do this because there is only one staff that makes and serves breakfast.
Our overall experience was a very good one. I would recommend this inn because of it's comfort, friendly staff, hearty breakfast and affordable prices. Newport has very expensive accomodation rates. The Cleveland House, Admiral Farragut or Clarkeston are probably the best bang for your buck.
