our stay at the armistead cottage was delightful. Romana is a cheerful, chatty hostess and was able to recommend things to do and see during our short two day stay. she has a wonderful sense of humor and made us feel welcome. the rooms were very clean, the food was delish and she took into account food preferences( vegetarian)
the carrot musuem is hilarious. We used our car, but if you were a walker you could walk to many attractions from the cottage. our rooms had fireplaces, which took the chill off the cold wet days we spent in newport. romana offered a fridge for our own use and stocked it with drinks (water soda) and when we mentioned we had brought wine she left out a corkscrew and wine glasses for us to use. we enjoyed our stay and woudl recommend it highly.

“Our Place”

Armistead Cottage

7 Apr 2008

No other B&B can out charm, class, or cook the Armistead Cottage. My wife and I have claimed the cottage "Our Place" and have returned four times.
The victorian era cottage is just minutes from Bellevue Avenue which makes traveling easy. On a warm day, you can walk to some of the street's historic mansions. Each room has it's own unique charm and decor. Our favorite is the lilac room because it is cozy and full of sunshine. The gas fire place also provides a hint of romance and warmth.
Innkeepers Romana and Charles make you feel like you are family. Their loving relationship fills the house with a relaxed energy. They now how to serve. On our first visit, I forgot our toothpaste. I asked for directions for a CVS, but Romana gave us a brand new tube from her own bathroom. Other innkeepers would have sent me on my way.
Finally, breakfast is where Romana's creative spirit is at it's best. Each menu includes a fruit such as baked bananas. Next course is ussually a bread, which Romana likes for you to guess the Ingredients. The main course are simp;y delicious. Our favorite is the french toast casserole that has brown sugar and sausages baked on top.
If you are planning a trip to Newport, there is no other place to stay other than the Armistead Cottage. It is our favorite place to relax.

“Our Stay at the Armistead B&B”

Armistead Cottage

19 Feb 2008

My husband & I along with two other couples stayed at the Armistead B&B the weekend of Feb. 16, we had a great time and enjoyed both the hospitality of both Romana and Charles; they were very intertaining, we enjoyed their stories, their house is
so comfortable. We felt we knew them for a long time. The breakfast's were very nice. We were always made to feel so welcomed.
It was 24 carat gold.........Romana has a room which is filled with all kinds of carrots, it's the carrot museum. Well we added to her
collection, we gave her the 2000 carrot for her room.
The location, the house & both Romana & Charle's knowledge of the area made our weekend very special and we will for sure return to Armistead Cottage.

“A sweet New Year's Eve stay”

My boyfriend and I were looking to spend New Year's Eve outside of Manhattan and remember Newport being quite beautiful from an earlier trip. All we really wanted was a cute B&B with a fireplace, Armistead Cottage gave us that along with an incredibly gracious hostess (Ramona) and amazing food (her breakfast offerings were very good). I especially loved that the rooms and bathroom (and entire house, for that matter) were spotless. She also provides free sodas, bottled water, and candy, which came in handy for those late night sugar cravings.

Wanting to celebrate 1st Night in Newport, we reviewed
several B&B's. We couldn't have made a better choice than
the Armistead Cottage. Owners Romana & Charles have
captured the essence of what makes for a relaxing, interesting
(check-out the carrot museum) & refreshing stay. We loved
our room- adorned with antiques, fireplace, & Victorian decor.
Even a heated towel-rack ( we enjoy being spoiled).
The delicious breakfast was a good start to the day- and a bonus was our fellow guests were great conversationalists.
Great B&B's attract like-minded travelers. Overall,
a top notch inn- one we will return to.
