My family stayed only one night in Newport, and boy did we enjoy it. The Marriott itself was a VERY upscale hotel, and at $300 for one night I basically expected it to be that way.

LOCATION: Very good. It says in the description that it's 'right on the water' which is not true. But honestly, the harbor smelled like chum and rotting fish anyway so I am relieved it wasn't on the harbor. There is a baseball field about 100 steps away and a visitor center about 50 steps away, so that was perfect. About three football fields north of the hotel was a cobblestone road that basically encompassed all the dining attractions of Newport (I recommend Newport Blues Club if you want entrees from $12-$22). There is a parking garage on location that costs money per night.

APPEARANCE: The atrium is enormous. You can look up and see 2 glass elevators and seven stories of rooms. Some of the nicer rooms have indoor patios that look over the atrium. There's a nice piano in the middle that the people allow guests to play (provided you don't make a racket). The front desk is big and has a concierge desk nearby.

STAFF: The staff was really friendly. Every cleaning lady I walked by said "Good Morning" when I went downstairs after I woke up. The people at the front desk are really nice, but I dont think they live in Newport because they couldn't recommend a cheap place to wine and dine nearby.

ROOM: The room had everything you'd expect, and even some more stuff. There was the coffee machine w/ to go cups, very soft pillows and sheets, a closet, mp3 radio, wifi (free? dont know), HDTV (with only 1 channel ironically), a jogging map, electronic safe, minifridge, LED climate control, and very clean bathroom.

COOL AMENITIES: There's a Starbucks in the atrium with typical expensive Starbucks pastries and coffee. There is a Floor 7 that can only be accessed by VIPs who have key cards (aka people who spend lots of money there). The swimming pool and hot tub area is great. Towels available there. There's Pacman for 25 cents, which was fun for about 30 seconds. The workout center is INCREDIBLE. Clean workout area with 5 bikes and 5 treadmills, each with TVs attached to them. Plenty of weights to lift, the place is usually crowded. There are at least 2 raquetball courts, but I think you need to bring your own raquet and balls. The shower area was great too: Individually doored showers with soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers. Wooden lockers with electronic locks should you need it. After shave gel and mouthwash, more towels and some sinks there too.

OVERALL: I really liked this place. We only stayed one night unfortunately. I would recommend buying this place over the rest because of great, great location, tons of amenities, and easy parking. You won't need to use your car on this trip. If you have the money to spend, go for this place. It's expensive but it's probably the best hotel in Newport.

From check in to check out the majority of staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. When we mentioned at check-in that our airline had forgotten to put my wife's luggage on our plane they immediately offered her all the necessary toiletries to get her through until it arrived. The concierge volunteered to make dinner reservations at the Mooring when I inquired about it and got us in on a Friday night. She also gave us maps and driving directions for around town and to the cliff walk, ocean drive, and mansions. the hotel is very convenient to the restaurants and shops on America's cup and there is a minor league ballpark right across the street. The lounge had good appetizers and the largest premium margarita I have ever had in a hotel or restaurant bar. It doesn't have the ambiance of Castle Hill but doesn't have the cost either. Great location to enjoy Newport.

Stayed here for one night as a last minute type thing. We booked the stay on one of the sites that you put in how much you want to pay. Checking in was fast and easy. The front desk staff was friendly. The room was the furthest it could possibly be from the elevator, but we were all young, so we had no problem.

The room has 2 double beds. The decorations were a nice touch. One problem was there were finger prints all over the window. That is an easy enough problem that should have been fixed.

The bathroom was clean. What more could you ask for.

There was a sun deck that you could lay out on. It looked to be in a sun filled area.

The parking is $20 a night. You must leave by 1 PM the day you check out. I thought this was a little odd. If I payed for it, I should at least get 24 hours worth. Not sure on other parking in the area.

Was in walking distance of everthing and was easy to find.

We booked a stay at the Marriot in Newport to stay durring the Memorial Day weekend. The check-in time is rather late (4pm) so we went to one of the mansions after arriving to waste some time. We booked a room on the concierge level which gives you use of the lounge on that floor. The lounge has a deck outside where you can watch boats and people come and go. Our room was pretty average but had an awesome media center hookup where you could attach either a portable DVD player or your laptop and watch it on the sweet flat screen TV in your room. As with most sea towns the decor is nautical design (tourists love it but it makes my eyes bleed).. Our room also had a random balcony that looked into the lobby (not sure of purpose). We had a great stay and the staff was very helpful even with a wedding in the hotel. Would definitly reccomend for a weekend trip. Easy parking in the attached garage.

“good place to stay but pricey”

Newport Marriott

25 May 2008

We were stuck staying at the Marriott because all the local b&bs were booked. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The service was good. The gym is rather nice with a pool and racquetball courts. I didn't like that you had to pay for wireless service considering the price of the hotel. Parking is a little pricey...there was cheaper parking in local lots nearby. Good location..walking distance from everything. Overall good but could be cheaper or inlcude more amenities.
