My family stayed only one night in Newport, and boy did we enjoy it. The Marriott itself was a VERY upscale hotel, and at $300 for one night I basically expected it to be that way.
LOCATION: Very good. It says in the description that it's 'right on the water' which is not true. But honestly, the harbor smelled like chum and rotting fish anyway so I am relieved it wasn't on the harbor. There is a baseball field about 100 steps away and a visitor center about 50 steps away, so that was perfect. About three football fields north of the hotel was a cobblestone road that basically encompassed all the dining attractions of Newport (I recommend Newport Blues Club if you want entrees from $12-$22). There is a parking garage on location that costs money per night.
APPEARANCE: The atrium is enormous. You can look up and see 2 glass elevators and seven stories of rooms. Some of the nicer rooms have indoor patios that look over the atrium. There's a nice piano in the middle that the people allow guests to play (provided you don't make a racket). The front desk is big and has a concierge desk nearby.
STAFF: The staff was really friendly. Every cleaning lady I walked by said "Good Morning" when I went downstairs after I woke up. The people at the front desk are really nice, but I dont think they live in Newport because they couldn't recommend a cheap place to wine and dine nearby.
ROOM: The room had everything you'd expect, and even some more stuff. There was the coffee machine w/ to go cups, very soft pillows and sheets, a closet, mp3 radio, wifi (free? dont know), HDTV (with only 1 channel ironically), a jogging map, electronic safe, minifridge, LED climate control, and very clean bathroom.
COOL AMENITIES: There's a Starbucks in the atrium with typical expensive Starbucks pastries and coffee. There is a Floor 7 that can only be accessed by VIPs who have key cards (aka people who spend lots of money there). The swimming pool and hot tub area is great. Towels available there. There's Pacman for 25 cents, which was fun for about 30 seconds. The workout center is INCREDIBLE. Clean workout area with 5 bikes and 5 treadmills, each with TVs attached to them. Plenty of weights to lift, the place is usually crowded. There are at least 2 raquetball courts, but I think you need to bring your own raquet and balls. The shower area was great too: Individually doored showers with soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers. Wooden lockers with electronic locks should you need it. After shave gel and mouthwash, more towels and some sinks there too.
OVERALL: I really liked this place. We only stayed one night unfortunately. I would recommend buying this place over the rest because of great, great location, tons of amenities, and easy parking. You won't need to use your car on this trip. If you have the money to spend, go for this place. It's expensive but it's probably the best hotel in Newport.
