Our stay was fantastic. Given the location, lovely rooms, great hospitality and breakfasts "to die for", what more could anyone want.?! Hope to see Heather , Michael and Jackson again soon.

My girlfriend and I had high expectations regarding this B & B from previous Trip Advisor posts and I am pleased to say that they were met and often exceeded. The owners Michael and Heather are a young couple who are very pleasant and seem genuinely interested in making your stay at their home relaxing and enjoyable. We had the yet to be named "suite" with a huge four poster king and separate sitting room with a private back entrance to a private deck just off the main deck in the back. Fabulous! The room had a working fireplace and the private bath was clean and spacious. Loved the federal period decor vs. the standard victorian make up of most B & Bs. Heather and Michael were perfect in their level of interaction with us...spent time talking and chatting but were also aware of allowing us some private time as well. The location is fantastic...2 minute walk to Thames St. shops and 10-15 min. walk to Bowen's Wharf area. Spring St. is not as busy as Thames and we had absolutely no traffic noise to contend with in our room. Would highly recommend this B & B to anyone looking for lodging in Newport.
Charming B&B in a great location. Rooms were very nice and the service was excellent. Breakfast was phenomenal, especially the french toast. Because the inn is located on a busy street, there was a little bit of noise in the room from traffic, but nothing too bothersome. Our favorite stops on the trip were the Cliff Walk and The Mooring Restaurant. Overall we would definitely recommend this B&B for its central location, great service, and nice rooms.

My wife and I had our best vacation ever and our stay at the Samuel Durfee house helped immensely in that regard. Innkeeper Heather is very helpful and friendly and gave use lots of good advice on restaurants and activities in Newport. You do not want to miss the absolutely divine breakfasts - their french toast is scrumptious! Breakfasts are served in a nicely appointed dining room and there is also a nice sitting area with a large TV and a refrigerator and table with snacks and drinks. We stayed in the Durfee room which faces the front of the house. I've noted other reviews that included complaints about traffic noise, but traffic during the night is very minimal and we had absolutely no problem getting a good night's sleep. The room itself was large and the bed was very comfortable. The room included several thoughtful details such as a vanity, ringpost, bathrobes, beach towels and wineglasses, among other things. The inn has it's own large, private parking area which is a huge plus for this area. The inn is within easy walking distance of the many restaurants and shops located on the Thames St. waterfront. More seasoned walkers could also reach the Bellevue mansions by foot as well.
We had to leave before breakfast on our last day there and we were given some fruit and muffins to go! It's this kind of thoughtfulness and attention to detail that puts this B&B in a class by itself!
P.S. If your visit to Newport will include a visit to the Doris Duke mansion, Rough Point, be sure to talk to Heather before visiting there.

My wife and I were told of the beauty of Newport by some friends that had visited recently. We decided to visit however, unlike our friends, we wanted to stay at a B&B. After a search online we found the Samuel Durfee House. It's location to downtown seemed perfect for our needs. After talking to the owner we knew we would be made to feel at home and booked the trip.
I can't say more honestly that the pictures of this house do not do it justice. The rooms were beautiful, and the family that ran the house were extremely hospitable. From the house you can walk to every desirable destination in Newport including the mansions, the restaurants, and the shops.
We have traveled extensively throughout Europe and are no strangers to B&B's. Our experience in Newport was right at the top of our list and was in no small part due to our accommodations. We would recommend the Samuel Durfee House to anyone traveling to Newport, RI.
Thank you Michael, Heather and Jaxson for a wonderful stay!
