Stayed during Martin Luther King weekend. The hotel is beautiful. Very clean. Once you arrive, the concierge opens the door for you. The front desk is very polite and welcoming. If you need assistance, someone will always be there to help you.

The room was clean and spacious. The bed was really comfy. Try to get a room with a full window as we got one that wasn't much of a window or view.

Ordered room service, a bit much. Had lamb and a burger, but they overcooked the burger a little bit.

The spa was great. Service was excellent.

They have a parking lot, you can choose valet parking or just park your car on their lot - no fee.

Other than that, the hotel was a great place to stay for rest and relaxation.

This is a beautiful, comfortable, convenient hotel. Our room was spotless and the furnishings and linens were beautiful. It was a very comfortable room to be in. The bathroom was also wonderful. The fixtures and decor were great. The hotel itself is in walking distance to downtown and it's a nice walk. The hotel is huge and reminds you a bit of the hotel in The Shining, BUT it's not haunted, at least not that I know of. The size and style are like hotels of bygone days. It's really quite regal. The spa and restaurant on site are both very good also. The dinner was wonderful and my spa treatments very relaxing and professional. The room I was in in the spa was gorgeous, I did not want it to end. I would recommend all aspects of this hotel, even the parking was easy and problem free. Rare these days!

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. We parked the car when we got there (1/13/08 thru 1/15/08) and never had to get in it again. The harbor area with the shops and restaurants and the Cliffwalk are all within walking distance. The pool and whirlpool are great. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and afternoon tea at the hotel’s restaurant, One Bellevue. Both were a little pricey but we got such a good rate on the room it didn’t matter. The room itself was immaculate (it was one of the “updated” rooms) but quite small. There wasn’t even a place to put our suitcases. Again, with the great rate we just shrugged off the claustrophobic feeling.

Frankly, I'm mystified when I read the poor reviews on this site. Almost makes me think there is another Hotel Viking (there is a terrible one in VT but that's another story!!). We are eagerly anticipating a return trip very soon.

“Good location and very comfortable hotel”

We had booked to stay with a B&B for two nights in Newport. We drove from Boston and arrived mid afternoon to find our B&B unattended. At 5.30pm we gave up and realised we needed to find alternative accommodation. We drove past the Viking and decided it looked nice, so we went in. We asked for a room with a King Bed and I asked to see the room. It was on the top floor at the very end of the corridor. The room looked fine and the price was good, so we took it.

We found the room to be good - the King bed was very comfortable, the bathroom a good size with good amenities and there was high speed internet, so we could check emails on our laptop. Our room was extremely quiet and despite two wedding parties staying at the hotel, we never heard a thing from our room. The hotel only serves brunch on weekends. We were there on a Thursday and Friday night, so we had breakfast in town on the first day and enjoyed the buffet breakfast on our last day. The breakfast was excellent.

The location of the Viking was very good. The hotel is walking distance to downtown Newport including most restaurants. We only used our car on one day to drive to the Mansions. We enjoyed dinner one night at the Black Pearl Commodore Room which was recommended by the front desk. The Black Pearl, located on the water, has a casual bar and the more formal dining of the Commodore Room.

We received a call from the B&B we had booked, apologising for a mix up in dates. It all worked out fine and we were happy with our stay at the Viking.

My girlfriend and I decided to get out of town for a few days, so we chose Newport based on the easy drive, and affordable accommodations.

I spent a fair amount of time on Tripadvisor reading reviews, but finally visited Priceline and put in a bid. $64 later I had a room booked at the Hotel Viking.

After reading some alarming reviews, I decided to call the hotel to get the straight story regarding construction and other issues other reviewers noted. The hotel assured me that the construction was done, and that I would enjoy my stay.

From the moment I pulled up to when I had my car brought around for us to leave town, the staff did their best to make sure we were well taken care of.

The complaints about thin walls are definitely true, but being that I live in NYC, I am used to hearing my neighbors cheer every time the Yanks score a run. Plus I am a heavy sleeper, so this didn't really pose any issues. The room appeared to be newly furnished, and the bathroom was updated recently, so it met my expectations.

We did eat at their restaurant, "One", and it was pretty good. A little over priced, but worth the convenience. The service is very attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Again, an expensive dinner, but the food was great, so worth the premium pricing.

Upon checkout we asked about where to grab some breakfast, and they directed us to the Atlantic Grill. It is less than 10 minutes away, and a local favorite because of the tasty food and good prices.

Thanks Hotel Viking!
