My girlfriend and I decided to get out of town for a few days, so we chose Newport based on the easy drive, and affordable accommodations.
I spent a fair amount of time on Tripadvisor reading reviews, but finally visited Priceline and put in a bid. $64 later I had a room booked at the Hotel Viking.
After reading some alarming reviews, I decided to call the hotel to get the straight story regarding construction and other issues other reviewers noted. The hotel assured me that the construction was done, and that I would enjoy my stay.
From the moment I pulled up to when I had my car brought around for us to leave town, the staff did their best to make sure we were well taken care of.
The complaints about thin walls are definitely true, but being that I live in NYC, I am used to hearing my neighbors cheer every time the Yanks score a run. Plus I am a heavy sleeper, so this didn't really pose any issues. The room appeared to be newly furnished, and the bathroom was updated recently, so it met my expectations.
We did eat at their restaurant, "One", and it was pretty good. A little over priced, but worth the convenience. The service is very attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Again, an expensive dinner, but the food was great, so worth the premium pricing.
Upon checkout we asked about where to grab some breakfast, and they directed us to the Atlantic Grill. It is less than 10 minutes away, and a local favorite because of the tasty food and good prices.
Thanks Hotel Viking!
