While the front desk did their best to dismiss us with their snobbish and denigrating treatment, the cleaning staff overlooked the soiled 'extravagant' linens in our cramped room. The first night we were entertained by the ongoings of not one, but three, couples. One on either side and the room above. It wouldn't have been that bad if the walls weren't so thin that the activities woke my wife, two very young daughters and myself. When I asked to change rooms the front desk told us that since we had used Hotwire they _wouldn't_ change rooms without a $150/night surcharge! Too bad our stay in Newport couldn't have been better.

My boyfriend & I just got back from a fabulous weekend in Newport. The Hotel Viking was everything we had expected and then some. The staff is very professional, courteous & efficient. The Hotel Viking gets a 10 from us for their customer service.
Although the valet guys are very helpful the price for parking is outrageous. I have to say the water bottles are a nice touch... We will be back soon!!!!!!!!

A special thanks to Molly (a server in the dining room). She was one of the friendliest people at the hotel. We encountered her on two different days & each time she greeted us with a wonderful smile & and great service. Give that girl a raise :-)

Oops almost forgot..... You have to go to 22 Bowens for dinner. It was amazing & very romantic.

The Hotel Viking offered a centrally-located facility that didn't try to impose a mandatory minimum stay of two weekend days like so many other hotels in Newport do --- and offered a nice pool along with a heated jacuzzi to boot. Rooms were large and spacious and had the nicest beds I've ever slept on at a hotel (there were three of us -- we all ended up taking naps and turning in early, and I'm convinced it was the quality of the beds and the soft linens). Walls were thick enough that when a few idiots decided to play soccer in the hallway at 2 am, the sound was muffled enough that it didn't really bother me. Only negative comment I have is that the bathroom was really very small. But, considering everything, that was no big deal.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Viking over a long weekend. We had to change our rooms 3 times. When we arrived we were taken to a room with 2 double beds, which was certainly not suitable to us. The very nice bellman told us that a convention extended their stay for 1 night and we were the 3rd couple he helped to their room who had a complained that the room was not what they requested. We were then moved to a room with a king bed - in a wing of the hotel that was far removed from the character of the historic feel that we were hoping for. The room smelled terribly, which resulted in a restless night's sleep. The next morning my husband spoke to the front desk and they told us that we could be moved to an estate room in the main part of the hotel, but they would charge us an extra $100 per night. We made this move in protest because I could not rest in the other room with that stench. I later found out that the room we were in the first night was a room that accepted pets. We knew this hotel was animal friendly, but my husband received assurance from the Hotel Viking that we would not be placed in or even near one of the rooms where pets had stayed. The front desk was less than professional in their response to our disappointment.
The dining staff all seemed that they were in training.
I would not recommend this hotel.

“Great Location, OK Hotel”

Hotel Viking

You cannot beat the location of this hotel. It is in the heart of Newport and there are a lot of things to do with in walking distance of the hotel. Give the "Brick Alley Pub" a try for lunch and "The Mooring" for dinner. The cliff walk is a MUST before you leave Newport.

We were NOT pleased with the $22.00 a day just to self-park our car. Come to find out that we didnt have to pay that amount and we could have just parked a few blocks away.

Don't let the interior of the hotel fool you. Yes, the hotel itself is beautiful but the rooms are small and nothing to write home about. We paid $269.00 a night., a total rip off. Our view was the parking lot and the people above us were so loud. It was suppose to be a romantice getaway for my boyfriend and I but I wouldn't dare to stay there again.

Housekeeping took forever too. Our room was not cleaned until 6 PM that night. We just so happen to be walking back to our room from sightseeing and they were just leaving our room.

I guess I should stop writing now since I don't have much to type other than this over-crowded hotel is def. over-rated. Stay at a local bed & breakfast instead. I am not a stuck-up person by any means but I did expect a whole lot more.
