Our family of 5 stayed in a Junior Suite for 3 nights in July after staying 3 nights in Honolulu. I booked this hotel because my husband is usually tired of the city after a few days so I wanted something a little more relaxing away from the city. This resort is definitely away from the tourist areas and the drive to the hotel was a little scary. There are locals living in tents along the beach front. I was becoming a bit uneasy as we made our way to the resort. However, it was beautiful once we arrived. The grounds are so lovely. I wish I played golf because the course looked wonderful. The grounds were covered with beautiful flowers and we really enjoyed watching the peacocks and other birds. We had breakfast on the restaurant balcony each morning which provided a view and a very tasty breakfast. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, but it was quite pricey. Ask to see a menu before you sit down if you are on a budget. We had the Mahi Mahi and it was excellent. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay, but we will probably stay in Honolulu if we get the chance to return to Oahu. If you are a golfer or someone looking for a place that's beautiful and away from the crowds, Makaha Resort is the place for you.

Stayed for two weeks while visiting relatives in Ewa.

The good:
- The staff was polite.
- The shower, bed, and air conditioning were adequate.
- The cost was significantly lower (by better than two-to-one) than the Ihilani.
- The grounds are generally well maintained, and the setting is pleasant.
- Solid construction. We never heard the neighbors above us.

The not-so-good:
- A few days before leaving home, I called the Makaha Resort to re-confirm late arrival and non-smoking rooms. I was told that our requests were noted. When I asked if “noted” meant that we might not get a room at all, let alone non-smoking, I was told “yes”. I modified our plans so we arrived a few hours earlier and we got the room we requested, but the uncertainty was unpleasant, and the change of plans should not have been necessary.
- Our room (E504) needs a facelift. Everything is old and worn or rusted, but functional.
- Our toilet kept running after each flush, so I adjusted the float arm. While doing so I removed some pieces of broken mirror from inside the tank.
- When we asked on the first day that the batteries in the TV remote control in our room be replaced, they did it the very next day, but: Later that second day, we asked that a burnt out bulb in our room be replaced, and that the TV remote control in the exercise room be repaired. Never happened.
- Debris (plastic cups, etc.) in the lawn outside our patio that was there when we arrived on Sunday was finally picked up on Thursday.
- The jogging path shown on a map/sign near our room doesn’t exist.
- Our keys both died on our third day. They blamed it on us, not accepting that it could have been their failure to program them correctly. They died again on our thirteenth day, but at least they didn’t try to blame us again.
- Daily maid service was generally adequate, although sweeping/vacuuming happened only occasionally. On our eleventh and twelfth days we had no maid service. Had we not notified the front desk, who knows how long they’d have continued to skip us? When I notified them, they decided all we needed that night was two bath towels. I never got to discuss washcloths, soap, coffee, etc.
- Linen change was only weekly.

Neutral:
- We had a few insects, but this is the tropics.
- We never ate in the restaurant. We did look at the breakfast buffet one morning, but the variety/quality/price sent us elsewhere.

Would we stay there again? Perhaps, but not until after an extensive effort to find a reasonably priced alternate.

We were assigned this facility as a time-share exchange ( a topic for another review). The hotel (NOT a resort) was tired. It may have been very nice 15 yrs ago, but it is way past its prime. We had ants in our rooms, housekeeping and the manager were called, and they gave a can of bug spray. The ants became a part of our vacation-they stayed with us for the whole week. The lanai was nice. The airconditioning was nonexistant. The furniture was old, but functional. The minfridge did not keep anything cold (but it did help keeping the ants out of our food). The grounds were ok. Long hike from the parking lot to our buildiing. The location is---far from everything. No restaurants other than fast food drive ins within 50 minute drive ( except for one little diner named Hanneras-not bad, and inexpensive). The onsite restaurant is ok-expensive, not great. The concierge is actually an agent of a tour company-she would not give us any recommendations for anything other than the products and tours she sold. The front desk was friendly, but didn't help solve any problems. My final; bill had a $65 miscellaneous charge on it, that no one could explain-it was taken off, but check your bills carefully. Pool was wonderful..noisey. We had no trouble with the neighborhood beaches. We just left our car windows open, car unlocked, and nothing in it. Nice surf shop at the intersection of the Farrington Highway and the Makaha Valley Road. Friendly and helpful. A main water pipe broke one night. We were without water for >12 hrs, including sinks, toilets, ice machine, and air conditioning. To compensate, they gave us coupons for $10 for breakfast, where the cheapest item was continental buffet at $10.95. All in all, a very non-memorable hotel, in an inaccesible location. If you want to get away from everything, in a basic environment, this is your place. If you want to see Oahu like the brochures, expect to do a lot of driving.

We just returned from a week stay and other than the "Resort" being located on the far west side of the island, we had a wonderful time. I am not sure I would call this property a Resort , no spa, althought golf is very popular. The staff was very helpful and nice. If you don't mind driving an hour each way to other part of Oahu than this is worth the money. Makaha is an older property and the rooms reflect this, however they are kept very clean and everything is well maintained.

The site was beautiful with Plumeria trees planted along all the walkways, making the fragrance almost intoxicating. Our rooms had a view of the golf course, the ocean and the mountains. We sat on the lanai early in the morning and enjoyed the view over coffee. The room was older, but well kept and clean, with a very comfortable bed. We appreciated the refrigerator and coffee maker. The layout was gorgeous, the pool was great. The only downside is that you have to park up at the lot and either walk or ask for a hotel golf cart to take you to your room. The hotel took care of our bags both ways and delivered them to our cars when we checked out. Personnel was very pleasant and accommodating. It was a ride to get to this hotel, but we avoided the traffic and noise of Waikiki, which was our goal.
