just got back from Oahu not a "reviewer" so to speak but feel compelled to spend the time... went for the Pro Bowl and to see my 11 and 13 year old through surf lessons. I did some research on the 'net but as usual you never know. Had some probs connecting with sunset suzy although seemed a good experience... ended up at the hotel and asked the concierge (unnamed to protect him for his honesty) He advised try Hawaiiian fire "I know those guys and am a surfer myself"'nuff said!.... you must understand "the village" has two schools to sell but we were pointed elsewhere???? this is why you pay the concierge a nice tip! Hawaiian fire van driven by Noah shows up bright and early and from his early morning energy you get a feeling this will be good time. Some probs with the transpo cause other students not at pick up point.... no worries he goes back for them... this is a sign who you are dealing with.... most attractions see this as a bonus and take the money and run! We get to the beach +/- 30 mins from Waikiki (Barbers Point) full experience of Hawaiian surf complete with muddy road to the beach and Locals fireing up the barbecues...kind of got me concerned because this is the time in movies where the locals pound the mainlanders (Blue Crush) for even contemplating going near their hallowed grounds. We drive through the trees to find a cool set up on the beach with multiple equipment trucks and canopies and such..again a good sign a company that is willing to put something ($) into their presentation. In the water quick not a drawn out on beach experience exactly what you need and lets go do this! multiple instructors in the water calling for you to paddle out to them and go again. this is big given the other experience...with HF you will get as many waves as you can paddle to an instructor for.... and the waves at their location just keep rolling! The instructors in the water not exactly sure of names Chessa? and Ashley? were incredible with the kids very supportive and kept them energized... I should mention the instructors were noticeably uncomfortable in the water that was apparently colder than usual. So even with their teeth chattering they were exceptional. Mark and Joe who did the on shore were very cordial and relieved any intimidation that one would feel taking on this adventure. After that great experience we spend a few days at the hotel and the kids obviously want to surf again so we do the Hawaiian hot spots lesson simply because I was uncomfortable at this point just renting boards and heading out..... Waikiki Beach is no place to take a lesson!!!!!!! The surf is awesome and to say you surfed there may be worth it and the wave can take you a great distance further tha the HF location BUT..... if you want to spend $90 for the opportunity to catch 4 waves go for it its your dough I considered the experience a waste catch a wave paddle back and sit for twenty minutes while the instructors have a tough time finding a good wave and staying out of the way of their surfer bro's. aside from Errol Kane at Hawaiian Hot Spots the professionalism and overall experience had with "the fire guys" at Hawaiian Fire blew HHS out of the water! So I highly recommend them! but be careful if you have teenagers or pre-teens they may just talk about the dreamy Hawaiian girl who taught them to surf the rest of the vacation!
Hats off to the Hawaiian Fire crew for what they do in their day jobs and their play jobs.

Lots of spectacular things to see & do on Oahu, but surf lessons with Hawaiian Fire Surf School outshines all other experiences, hands down! These folks are total pros and had all of us up riding waves in no time. Prompt pickup from my hotel and driven to a private & secluded beach with waves that were just right for beginners. Great equipment that's custom-made for this school made it easier to lay on the boards, as they're padded. Most of the instructors are firefighters so you can relax & feel safe. Attentive and non-intimidating instruction with these gorgeous & friendly guys made for an unforgettable day. A "not-to-be-missed" activity!

If you're in search of a fun, safe, and very memorable surfing experience, look no further - Hawaiian Fire Surf School is THE place to go!!

While vacationing on Oahu last week, I tried surfing for the very first time, and it now has become one of my favorite Hawaiian memories. I've been wanting to try it for a long time, but I've always been intimidated and nervous about the sport. I found Hawaiian Fire while doing some research on TripAdvisor. After visiting their website and reading all the positive reviews, I decided to sign up for a lesson.

My experience that day lived up to all of my expectations, and beyond. From the time I called, to the pick up/drop off, and the actual lesson, I thought they were very well-organized, fun, down-to-earth yet professional. They take you to a very secluded, beginner-safe beach which is a huge plus - you don't have to worry about running into other people like at crowded Waikiki beach. I also appreciated the patience, enthusiasm, and encouragement from each of the instructors. They break you down into smaller groups so you get a lot of personal attention. Although I was a bit nervous, once I stepped into the water I felt completely safe and had so much fun (despite falling most of the time!) The times I was able to get up and ride the waves was the best feeling.

I met John, one of the owners, and it's obvious he and the other staff love what they do and really care about providing positive experiences to their students. I realize that there are many surfing schools out there to choose from, and that my first surfing experience could have very easily been a negative one had I picked the "wrong" place. I highly recommend Hawaiian Fire to anyone, especially if you are a little nervous like I was. They'll be the ones I call the next time I visit!

Thanks again to John, Noah, Kazu, and Daryl!

On a recent trip to Oahu, my family and I decided to go surfing with the Hawaiian Fire Surf School. It was definately one of the best things we did. We had so much fun. You first have a choice of what time you want to go surfing. They have a 7:30 am class and a 10:00 am class. We opted for the 10:00 am class. The bus picks you up at your hotel and takes you to this awesome secluded beach. We were the only ones on the beach and it was beautiful. When we got there the surf boards were on the beach ready for us. They also had tents, chairs, and water for us. It was very organized and professional. After a brief instructional talk, we headed for the surf boards and practiced getting on while still on the beach. After we felt comfortable, the instructors took us out into the water. We had no problems getting on the board and I believe everyone in our group was able to catch a few waves. I have a 14 year old son, that had absolutely no problems getting on the board. My 9 year old son had a private instructor (that's the rule) and it was great because neither my husband or I had to follow him around to make sure he was ok. Mark (the instructor) took care of him and had my son surfing. The instructors actually help you catch the wave as you paddle. I didn't think I would be able to do it, but we all did and had a great time. We had about 15 people in our group and 4 instructors. They also have a photographer on the beach taking photos of everyone. You can purchase the CD of all the photos for $40. The lessons were $99 per adult and children under the age of 11 need a private instructor at a cost of $129. Don't let the price prevent you from doing this. It was so worth the money.

We thought that we wouldn't be able to make the surf lessons because our teenagers were still a little jet-lagged from the flight so we called and the folks there assured us that we would be ok. So, the morning after landing in Oahu, we were on an empty beach getting ready to surf for the first time in our lives. And it was amazing! The friendly staff made us feel welcomed, then prepped us on the finer points of surfing, and we were in the water catching waves and having a great time. We were really impressed with the attention the staff took to watch out for our safety and the pictures were worth every penny. We were all glad that we didn't miss out on this Hawaiian tradition. A big Mahalo to Hawiian Fire!
