We stayed at the Canyon Campground for three nights in August. The campground is very large! I think we drove about a mile in to our site off of the main road. For a campground as large as this you'd expect little privacy, but it wasn't too bad! plenty of thick trees add privacy to the sites. However, the sites were pretty uneven, I'm really glad we were in our truck camper. Some tent campers had to get pretty creative with where they put their tents.
There was only one bathroom (flush toilets) per loop which was inconvenient and made for a long walk from most sites. The showers were located in the main building, which wasn't in walking distance from our site. A nice amenity to have, and clean, but we only used them once. There is also a Laundromat located in that building.
Canyon Campground is located right next to Canyon Village which makes getting gas, groceries, or snacks very convenient. There is also a lot more activity, traffic, and people.
We would stay at Canyon again, but only because of how conveniently located it is, close to the Lamar and Hayden valleys for early morning wildlife watching, easy drive to Lake Yellowstone, and close to our favorite hike, the Mount Washburn trail.
