We stayed two nights in the Frontier cabin with shower. We actually had to get two cabins as we are a party of four. We booked nearly a year in advance for a Friday and Saturday night stay, so each night cost about $250 which is extremely pricey but was the splurge of our vacation so that we could wake up and see Old Faithful do her thing at sunrise and watch her late evening show before retiring for the night.
The cabins had a double bed and twin bed, a sink I. The room, bathroom with a toilet and behind the door a small but effective shower once the water warmed up. We joked that if you were taking a hot shower whe. Old Faithful erupted, you were likely to get a cold rush as she was using up all the hot water.
There was a small desk with a few drawers, a luggage stand, a small shelf with an extra pillow and a portable fan. The windows opened on both sides to allow a breeze. There is an ice bucket, plastic cups, soap and shampoo provided. The ice machine is centrally located among the cabins.
The Lodge building is just a few minutes walk from the cabins. They serve lunch and dinner cafeteria style. We ate dinner here one night and found it to be priced about what we would pay for a meal at a family style restaurant. They have a small bakery shop and ice cream available. Also a gift shop. There are rocking chairs and benches on the side of the Lodge that are a good spot to watch the geyser.
The immediate area has the Snow Lodge, the Visitors Center, and the Old Faithful Inn where we ate breakfast one morning. There are a few trails around the geyser and basin that are worth the walk. You can also walk to other geysers from this location.
We felt that it is worth staying In the park for a first visit to Yellowstone, and since the one thi we wanted to be sure to see was Old Faithful, this was perfect for us. Having driven the figure eight loop during the course of our stay and looking at the other sites, we would recommend the Old Faithful area for first timers who want to stay In the park.
