We spent spring break last year in and around Zion National Park and happened across the Zion Adventure Company (ZAC) website while looking for some things to do. After speaking with them and about the suitability of canyoneering for my wife and I and our two lids (son 12 and daughter 14), we booked 3 of our 5 days at Zion with them. Two days of canyoneering and one day of mountain biking (we hiked various trails in the park on the other days (unfortunately not the Narrows because of high water). The two days we spent canyoneering with ZAC were AWESOME. Our guide, Hank Moon, was superb. Patient and clearly expert. The first day was spent in Chockstone Canyon learning how to tie into the harness and rappel safely and then moving through some pretty cool spaces in chest high water in dry suits. The second day was spent in Water Canyon rappelling up to 100 feet through waterfalls of 37F water. The gear ZAC provided was of the highest quality and kept us dry and warm. We all had an incredible time. Quite possibly one of the coolest things we've done as a family (and we've done some neat stuff).
I highly recommend Zion Adventure Company, and in particular, canyoneering. Ask for Hank. He is fantastic.
