After one week of rice and curry, we were craving for some westren food.
We ate there 3 days in a row, almost twice a day, Sri Lanka and westren food which was great.
The owner is very nice guy, and their Pizza's are great.

I was recommended to have a meal here by the owner of Planters Bungalow just outside Ella and was I glad to receive the suggestion. I had the best pizza I think I have ever had including those enjoyed in Italy. The dough was crispy thin and stayed that way until the end – the topping was gorgeous and it came on a wooden board with a little pizza cutter to cut the very large portion into mouth size sections. The beers are lovely and cold and the coffee is great. What an oasis!
Lots of variety, great pizza, veggie burger, wraps etc. A nice change of pace from the twice daily rice & curry. Dream Cafe is a safe bet with good service and some tastes from home. We also arranged transport to Unawatuna through them at a competitive price. Give Jade Green (above the bank) a try for a truly authentic Sri Lankan meal. So authentic that she needs 90 minutes notice and accepts max 6 people per night.
We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Ella. We first decided to eat there because it was opposite our guest house and it was pouring down! The food was delicious, as a family we ate across the menu and it was all consistently good. The pizza was outstanding, it looked and tasted as if it had been hand made. The Rough Guide recommended a restaurant in Unawatuna as having the best pizzas in Sri Lanka, we would beg to differ. We ate there on Christmas Day when they were only serving a 3-course set menu. The food was delicious and they made an exception for our vegetarian daughter with no hassle. The prices were good, cheaper than many of the other restaurants in Ella.
The service was unfailingly good and we used their landline to phone the UK at a bargain rate and also the internet (they have 3 computers) without being charged.
Would highly recommend the Dream Cafe.
It was also hard for us to believe that there is such an outstanding place hidden in the hills of Sri Lanka. The food (western and curries) was well above standard and the service has to be amongst the best in the country.
For those who want to splurge a little, there is a bargain suite (lounge, bedroom and hot-water bathroom) on offer that is a nice change from the other budget accommodation we found in Sri Lanka.
Prices are very reasonable.
