I've stayed here a few times, and once we rented the whole place for a family birthday. it is just great. It has the good value of a B+B with none of that sometimes awkward sense of being in someone else's home, the comfort and privacy of a hotel without the impersonality, because the owners are really kind and friendly. (They gave my sister a box of chocolates for her birthday)
A reasonably priced Italian restaurant in the courtyard,(run by real Italians) a doty swimming pool. Thick ancient walls, turret rooms and a four poster bed in one part, and Georgian elegance and room height in another. And so many things to see and visit nearby.
It's easy to access from Dublin.
The gardens are small, the swimming pool changing rooms are a little shabby, and Ardee has crept out so it's not the total depth of the country, but the castle itself is a wonderful place to stay. Kids LOVE it and it gives them a rare insight into history.
