We have just spent the weekend in the holiday cottage at the Milecastle Inn.
We were really impressed, everything finished to a high standard. There was a welcome pack of coffee, tea bags, milk, little pots of jam and some breakfast bars !!
The pub was very traditional and just what we like, we ate there both Friday and Saturday nights and the food was lovely, proper hearty food, just what's needed after a day walking the wall!!
We were lucky enough on the Saturday afternoon to watch a local hunt as they all rode through the fields opposite the pub.
The pub is only open 12-3 and then 6-11 in winter, so we drove up the road and had a couple of drinks in the Twiced Brewed Pub, but I have to say, we preferred the Milecastle Inn, it was more cosy, especially with the open fire.
The only downside is that we struggled to get a mobile phone signal (orange-t mobile) and there is no wifi service offered. If there was wifi, it would have got 5 stars.
The weather wasn't brilliant, but it was still an enjoyable relaxing weekend, we visited Vindolanda and the Roman Museum, if I had one tip, do the museum before Vindolanda, then when you go to see the ruins, at least you've had some idea as to how it would have looked..
All in all we were so impressed we've booked to stay again in the summer !!!
