We have just come back from spending two nights at the Coq Hotel to which we fled as refugees from the dire Hotel de France – of which more anon! The Coq was just what we needed. It is in a modern purpose built block at the back of the proprietor’s Coquempot Restaurant, which fronts onto one of the main squares, and for that reason it is wonderfully quiet. The bedrooms are a good size, the bathrooms are excellent, the beds are comfy, the curtains kept the light out, and above all it is warm! We were in room 25, a triple (big double bed plus a single) on the second floor, to which there is a lift. Montreuil is, of course, a bit of a tourist hot-spot, and prices are high, but the Coq was not bad value. We paid 120 Euros a night including taxes. By no means luxury, but it was a very pleasant place to stay. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back there or to recommend it. Our only regret was that we didn't get to eat there this time, but went instead to the Chateau de Montreuil, another serious (and very expensive) mistake of which also more anon!
